Starz/Anchor Bay are releasing this excellent slasher 01/20/09. Worth a peek.

It's quite a good little "winter" slasher. I already own the Norwegian 2-DVD release from 2007 though, which had a solid transfer. I doubt this release will offer anything new over that one, but it's great that it's finally getting a domestic release.

About time. Shame on AB for not releasing a Blu-Ray version.

So, when's Cold Prey 2 coming out on DVD and where can I buy it?

I'm not too keen on modern slashers these days, but all the hype here definitely has me excited. Winter slashers are my favorite, even if there are a fair bit of bad ones (damn you, Satan's Blade). Can't wait!

I'm also interested. I really dig films set in snowy landscapes.

Norwegian....well I'm assuming it's Norwegian cause that's where it's from. Don't know that I've heard enough Norwegian over the years to actually recognize it :)

edit: I think I just figured out why you were asking. :)

    It's definitely in Norwegian.

And even though I enjoyed it a lot, I wouldn't expect it to be "the most perfect slasher ever" like it says on the cover. It's not that good! But definitely worthwhile.

Well they're not exactly going to put a quote on the cover saying "definitely worthwhile" are they?

But yeah. not perfect but quite an enjoyable movie for those who enjoy slashers.

Saw this a while back, and it's pretty decent...nothing great, mind you, but definitely worth checking out and better than a lot of the other modern slashers out there.

This is Okay. It takes awhile to get going but isn't too bad as the body count starts up.
I am interested enough to see part 2 which hit cinemas in Norway late last year.

Hmm, so the US DVD is missing the two commentary tracks on the 2-disc Norway release? I guess they would have needed subtitles though.

I just finished watching this and liked it alot. I have always thought that the winter ski lodge setting is a great idea for a slasher film...but none have ever really done it justice until now.
While not perfect, it is a whole lot closer in feeling to vintage 80s slasher films than another recent "masked heavy breathing killer with a pick axe to grind movie" that it seems I am just about the only person on the planet to have not liked.
The film has a group of well drawn characters whom you actually care about. While not overly gory the kills are a bit hard to watch because the script has actually allowed you to get to know the victim a little bit...and you want to see them make it. You really feel bad for them when they meet up with the psycho...who is costumed in a memorable 80s fashion, and has just the right amount of backstory.
Performances are strong, and the stark, almost black and white cinematography really captures the desolate feel of this deserted hotel.
Probably what works best for me in this film is that fact that it totally avoids the whole "wink wink nudge nudge we're making an old school slasher film" feel that almost every other modern slasher flick has these days. Aside from the required "can you get a signal on your cell phone?" this movie feels like it was made in 1982.
