Um... it was okay. The snowy setting was a nice plus. The killer wasn't very memorable and the kills were a bit lacking. They needed more spark to 'em. The kids were very likeable, even the clownish one. A slasher always has one of those, but they tend to be annoying. Rent before buying. I actually prefer Iced & Shredder over this one. (gulp!)
Anyone looking for this in the downtown Toronto area, Future Shop seems to have the best price ($19.99) which is cheaper than Amazon.ca, Best Buy, HMV, and Sunrise. Just in case anyone cares. I did the research.
Wow, this just shows you how crazy the differences in prices are for DVDs and Blu Rays from USA to Canada. Seems like every day you hear about some awesome deal in America, and then you check the same store in Canada and the movie is three times as much. Makes no damn sense!
finally got around to seeing this one... paid about $4 used for the DVD. Even though it's a textbook slasher, Cold Prey was very well done. Not overwritten, and just the right amount of suspense. Likeable characters, good effects, and a memorable and creepy killer. Bravo! If you still haven't seen this, definitely give this one a rental or pick it up for cheap, and watch it in the original Norwegian language.
Well I know I am a little slow but I finally got to see this one- I had picked up the dvd at a local blockbuster that went out of business a while back- and especially considering I picked this up for like 4 bucks I was very pleasantly surprised- very solid slasher flick mainly because I actually cared about the characters. I thought the acting was very good and had some good scares and a pretty solid ending (although I am a bit skeptical about the killers actual killing abilities) but Id give this one a big ole thumbs up. Now I am interested in checking out part 2 and I thought I heard a part 3 exists as well?
The 3rd film is actually going to be a prequel. Part 2 is a lot of fun but I thought the original was superior because of the characters. I have no idea what the hold up is with the region 1 DVD but Anchor Bay or whoever needs to release it already.
I watched both this and the sequel a couple of months ago. A solid slasher double feature. More snowy slashers are always welcome so I'm looking forward to 3 also.
I enjoyed it, but to be honest I had more fun with Shredder. Though I will definitely pick up the sequels when (and if) they hit the US.
I didn't find the film boring but it was just about the most bloodless "slasher" I've ever viewed. I'll be watching part 2 later on. While the film was well made it just didn't bring anything new to the table.
I love Cold Prey and the 2nd one is awesome too. If they would release the third one here Id like to see it although I heard it is not as good
Cold Prey 2 blows the first one away. I loved it, definitely one of the better slasher movies of the past decade. First was a little too dry and generic for my tastes, but it did have decent atmosphere. I hope the third gets released here eventually, even if it's DVD only (I believe Scream has said 2 didn't sell so well and they have no interest). I don't believe any of the foreign releases have English subtitles.
The lack of gore didn't bother me one bit - I felt the scares were perfectly set up, and I was on the edge of my seat when the movie went into chase mode. The second is equally frightening. The third, not so much.
Third one is not great, it's a prequel and after the first two, which are pretty great, it was a disappointment.
I remember the first one was a pretty good snow horror movie. I haven't seen the second one yet. I'll probably do a double feature when I get the chance.
