I'm not sure which I saw first: THE BEYOND or NEW YORK RIPPER, but they both blew my mind--so gory and weird and amazing. Thank you, Lucio Fulci!

As far as foreign movies (not counting the UK and all the Hammer greatness) – it would be Suspiria. It was probably the first Italian horror movie I ever saw, and remains pretty much the best. The music score, the cinematography, the direction...it's just a nearly perfect film.

Wow - a lot of great ones. Let the Right One In, Audition, Cold Prey, Suspiria and Ginger Snaps (I'm in the US) spring to mind right away for me. Wow very tough- I will go with Audition- I love the slow build to the insane end - but I could just as easily go with Let the Right One In or Suspiria.

    Zombi 2

Zombie vs. Shark vs. Topless Scuba Diver. What more needs to be said? It's an all around favorite though.

Demons! You cannot beat a guy riding up and down a theater aisle slaying demons with a sword to a metal soundtrack. How is that not, like, the best thing ever?

I have a lot of favorites but if I have to choose one say just for gore I'd have to with The Beyond by Lucio Fulci. It's gory, wacky and moody with great cinematography.

Definitely Suspiria. It's also one of my favorite movies of all time.

Suspiria with Lucio Fulci's Zombie coming in a close second.

Haute Tension - it's one of my favourite picks to unleash on unsuspecting friends for scary movie nights. I like the plot twist, and even with repeated viewings, this movie still manages to generate some very visceral suspense throughout for me.

I'm tempted to say Suspiria, but since that one has already gotten a ton of love, I'll say Martyrs. It just takes the genre to such a dark nihilistic place that it's impossible for me to forget.

Lots of good ones listed but I'll go with an oldie: Tombs of the Blind Dead. Probably the first Euro horror film I ever saw - on Elvira's Movie Macabre! - I was really taken in by the non-American atmosphere. Very creepy.

I'll go with The Wicker Man from the UK. Christopher Lee is absolutely The Man in that movie, and the horrifying twist ending works beautifully.

Many honorable mentions: Shaun of the Dead, Suspiria, Phenomena, Demons, Zombie, City of the Living Dead, Cemetary Man, High Tension, [REC] 1 - 3, Godzilla, Matango, The Host, etc.... Lots of great ideas for Halloween viewing in this thread!
