We had some fun with our last contest about good remakes, why not take it a step further? What sequel to you like better than the first film in the franchise? For some there will be many, but tell us about them all, or if you want to limit it to one, then tell us which one represents the biggest improvement over the original film. Do that and you can win...[/b]

Blu-rays of two excellent sequels from Blue Underground - MANIAC COP 2 & 3.

A winner will be randomly selected on Monday, November 3rd.

Make a single post in this thread telling us your favorite sequel that's better than the original film in the franchise, and why, and you can win.

Good luck to all...and if you're having trouble picking, the correct answer is GHOULIES GO TO COLLEGE.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge is better than the original because it has tighter direction (some of the original's stunts are absolutely sloppy), it's darker, it has amazing homoerotic subtext, it can be touted as having a final boy OR a final girl depending on which way you look at it, and it introduced the world to a travesty that needs reforming: cheap bird seed that leads to spontaneous combustion!

Best in the series. "Hold me baby. Touch me... all night long."

There are a few, but I'll go with Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Joe Dante was give carte blanche to do whatever he felt in contrast to the Spielberg produced original. It's funnier, smarter and overall more enjoyable than the first. Plus Christopher Lee and Hulk Hogan show up.

I prefer most of the Friday 13th sequels better than the original. The original is a good film but I think Friday 13th 2 took it to the next level bringing Jason back, determined for revenge.

The Friday the 13th series is the only one I can think of where I enjoy 2 of the sequels more than the original: The Final Chapter and Jason Lives.

I think THE DEVIL'S REJECTS is a far superior film than HOUSE OF A 1000 CORPSES.HOUSE has some good imagery and effective moments but on whole it has a weak narrative. It's a collection of scenes rather than a cohesive whole. DEVIL'S on the other hand opens up the story and expands on the characters. It's a brutal, cruel film, but it taps into the same dark vein of energy that powered such disturbing "road" films as Peckinpah's BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA and Terrence Malick's BADLANDS.

Bloody Murder 2, it's not as good as any Friday the 13th film but it blows away it's original, and even gives us a nude Tiffany Shepis- in her prime. Also Unmasked Pt.25 is way better than the first 24, lol.

Dawn of the dead. So much fun with this one. Never was a fan of the original, I don't know why.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors is better than the original. Why? We get a kick ass Dokken song (and video), the idea of powers in dreams is bad ass, and the humour is the perfect level of funny...unlike some of the later films.

I like most of the Friday the 13th sequels over the original. Mrs. Voorhees just ain't scary once she shows up.

Leprechaun 2 and In Space are better than the original. The humour works better for me, and In Space just goes nuts in the last 20 minutes.

The Purge: Anarchy > The Purge. Better plot and acting.

Friday the 13th Part II. I love the original, but Part II is what really got me into the franchise.

I prefer Hostel 2 over the first Hostel. I like how they go more into how the hunting club is run, and how the American hunters attitudes switch when faced with the reality of murdering another human.

Dawn of the Dead gets my vote. I always thought that the shopping mall setting was perfect for this film.

I agree with Friday the 13th, Leprechaun, and Maniac Cop all having better sequels than the original, but for my pick I will go with Children of the Corn. I believe Part 3: Urban Harvest was the strongest film in the series, followed by Part 4: The Gathering, then the original.

None are top tier but Resident Evil: Apocalypse, part 2, is the best of the series in my opinion.
