    Psycho II

I will take some heat from the purists, but I just flat out love this sequel.

I like the sequel of Psycho II better as well. Excellent flow, creepiness, twists and kills. Plus, it got a lot of airtime on HBO when I was growing up.

Ghoulies is a terrible, terrible film--but Ghoulies II came 4 years later and brought the excellent 80s horror-comedy/cheese vibe with it. The setting is great, too. This one caught me by surprise!

My favourite: Gremlins 2: The New Batch > Gremlins.

More Gremlins. More mayhem. More laughs. More homage, self-parody, and cameos that work. Plus Christopher Lee.

    -------------------------
Other notable "Sequel > Orignal", in my opinion, in the horror/fantastic genre:

Dawn of the Dead > Night of the Living Dead

    Ghostbusters II > Ghostbusters

The Devil's Rejects > House of 1000 Corpses

Critters 2: The Main Course > Critters

The majority of the Leprechaun sequels > Leprechaun

Return of the Evil Dead > Tombs of the Blind Dead

This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse > At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul

    Phantasm II > Phantasm

Slumber Party Massacre II > Slumber Party Massacre

Sorority House Massacre II > Sorority House Massacre

    Troll 2 > Troll

    V/H/S 2 > V/H/S

Alien 2: On Earth > Aliens (Not really related, but still kinda relevant... :p)

Dude, no. GB2 is everything that is wrong with sequels! The "Love will save NYC" solution is gag-worthy. Jokes are watered down and retread, and it loses the "edge" that the original had. Strongly disagree, bro!

I agree with you there. It's a much better story when it isn't taking itself so seriously. For my pick, I have to go with Scary Movie. I really didn't like the first one all that much, but the second is hilarious!

I'll take Evil Dead 2. Is it a sequel or remake? Who knows, but the transformation from "Ashley" to "Ash" is very apparent for Bruce here. It's so much more fun, IMO than the original.

Friday the 13th Part 3 and Evil Dead II are much better than the originals in my book.

    Critters 2.

I thought the first one was fine but the second one actually gave more adventure, developed characters, deepened the plot. Sequels are almost always unnecessary but I do love it when writers put time into respecting and building on the first film. Critters 2 is the Godfather Part 2 of the horror world.

I'll go with Hatchet II. I enjoyed it much more than part 1, and although my opinion of the first has improved, I still think both the comedy and horror elements work better in part II, and I prefer Danielle Harris to whoever it was that played her in the first one.

Dawn of the Dead for me. Night was great but Dawn was so much better. It's one of the best zombie / post apocalyptic films of all time !

    Dawn Of The Dead.

Still the greatest horror film of all time.

The Return of Count Yorga. It's pretty much the exact same story as the first (practically a remake) but with a seemingly higher budget and better production values and some scenes that I find still play very well to this day, in particular the home invasion where the vampire brides massacre the family.

Maniac Cop 2! I absolutely love that flick. The originals no slouch, but MC2 has better action, better makeup and 100% more Robert Davi. The only downside is 75% less Bruce Campbell...

The Curse of the Cat People > Cat People

While the original is a nice little horror/thriller there's nothing too special about it. And while it's vital to see the first to appreciate the second, the followup is a brilliant fantasy horror that deals with childhood issues in a complex adult manner. It's both warm and chilling, macabre and idealistic, old world and new world. One of the more layered films made and truly overlooked. Val Lewton's best.

Friday the 13th Part II - the best one in the entire series - I do love the first one but the second is superior

The Devil's Rejects for me. With Corpses Zombie threw everything at you like he may not get another shot it. Some things worked and some didn't. Rejects is a more of a controlled and confident effort that just works better.
