Never liked him either, but he wasn't bad in Giallo and the reviews are mixed with Giallo, just like Mother of Tears. I liked them both. They are 2 of the best Argento films since the Stendahl Syndrome.

Well there goes the plot twist. Hmmmm, didn't Argento do another film where the detective hunting the killer turns out to be the killer.....I don't even know if I want to see this now.

Unless he literally plays two different people. That would be interesting to see.

The movie was big pile of shit. Hated it as much as Mother of Tears. Much like Romero I've given up on Argento.

They didn't ruin any twist, he plays two different people. Vincent Gallo was originally supposed to play the killer but withdrew last minute when he found out Asia Argento (his ex [Asia then left the project because she was pregnant at the time of filming and was replaced by Emmanuelle Seigner]) was to play the female lead, so Brody decided to fill in the role under make-up and used an anagram pseudonym under the credits (Byron Dierdra).

But still, Giallo is a dud. While it's better then the Card Player or Do You Like Hitchcock? it's still highly disappointing. It's not all Argento's fault though as he has distanced himself from the project because he did not like the producer's cut of the film, which is unfortunately the released form.

Fuck man, he really came through for the makers of this film, regardless of the final product, and they just fucked him royally.

Looks like most online dealers have already pulled it. I guess I may have to grab the Canadian release. I hate that cover though.

Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but does this count for R1 releases only? There's a nice Italian disc out which seems like the one for me.

so whats the story on this one? didn't i read somewhere that they settled? i know i've seen the (canadian) disc at hmv for $20. i can't bring myself to pay that much for a barebones disc of a movie i didn't even like, no matter how much i like argento. was the american version permanently recalled? if so, why wasn't the canadian disc pulled too?

in terms of the film itself, i just watched it for the first time yesterday. immediately after watching tenebre. that may have been a mistake. i don't think i would have dug giallo in any case, but i probably would have been willing to cut it some more slack if i hadn't been comparing it to tenebre at every turn. what a disappointment. this may be my least favorite argento film yet. at least phantom of the opera was over the top, entertainingly bad. this was just dull. if nothing else, i wish argento would go back to shooting on real film. at least then his films could look a little classier. maybe there were some great compositions in giallo, but with such a flat looking image, i didn't notice anything standout at all. its frustrating, because i think when he's actually interested, he can still do good work. i thought sleepless was actually a pretty decent giallo throwback (kind of ironic that "Giallo" wasn't really a giallo). And pelts and jenifer showed that he could do decent modern-feeling stuff too. but again, this was just dull. maybe if he did his directors cut, it would be better. but with all the hubbub surrounding brody, that doesn't seem likely. hopefully his next is better.

I think it was just pulled in the US as I have seen it for sale in a bunch of Canadian stores. If you want it for cheaper you can get it used at Blockbuster. I think it's $9.99 at the moment but they also have a 3 for $21 deal for $9.99 DVD's. I'm sure it will go down to $6.99 soon.

Thanks! I need to check out some BB stores this weekend. I want a copy, but won't pay a lot for a barebones disc!
