http://thenewbev.com/program/january-13-dario-argento-all-nighter/ The New Beverly is hosting an all-night marathon of Dario Argento films, all on either 16 or 35mm. NO digital prints or DVD/Blu-Rays. Film ONLY. The actual line-up will be a secret until the program begins, but you know it's gonna be the good stuff (I.E., NOT Dracula) I'd go, but I'm working a major roller derby tournament already that weekend. Plus I bet tickets are gonna fly fast. They go on sale January 1, and will sell out in minutes I'm sure. Hope someone from here can go though...
Looks like this was the lineup (I was unable to get tickets/make the trip anyway) Trauma Inferno The Bird with the Crystal Plumage Cat O'Nine Tails Four Flies on Grey Velvet The Card Player Honestly, I'm now less upset that I missed it. Yes, I'd still love to see those films on 35/16, they're not all his strongest work. I'd want at least a few more of Deep Red, Suspiria, Phenomena, Tenebrae, Opera, or The Stendhal Syndrome in there. Inferno and Bird would still be nice to see on celluloid though.
Aw man. Ignorance is bliss. I should have just kept thinking that what I listed above was indeed the lineup (I saw those six posters on the New Beverly Twitter feed, so I assumed that was what they showed. Actually, those were just posters from an enthusiast's collection that they had on display in rotation throughout the evening) So here's what they REALLY showed that night: Phantom of Terror (The Bird With the Crystal Plumage, US print) Cat O'Nine Tails Deep Red Suspiria Tenebrae Creepers (Phenomena, US print) That's a lineup worth driving to LA for!! here's a review, although this guy is not exactly an Argento expert: http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2017/01/17/dario-argento-collins-crypt-spending-all-night-with
Nice! I recall seeing an R-rated USA print (yes 35MM!!!) at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco some years ago. Felt lucky to have seen an R rated print of Four Flies on Grey Velvet, too. Back on topic - that's so cool. I would have been there if I could.
