I did two shots. From Il Tram/The Tram. The first is the MYA (from katatonia's post) and the second the Dragon release:

As you can see clearly with the second shot that the MYA is vertically squeezed and not in the correct AR.The Dragon DVD seems like a real 1.33:1 aspect ratio.
Image quality and colors are about the same, with the Dragon release looking slightly better.I'm no expert on things like artifacting etc. but the MYA release doesn't look as sharp as the Dragon DVD.Perhaps due to the PAL to NTSC conversion?

    What do you think?

I think the "vertical squeeze" in the screencaps may just be from PowerDVD. I just checked and for some reason the "Keep Aspect Ratio" (a recent software upgrade probably) was unchecked in the screenshot capture settings...so that's the likely answer.

The sharpness factor could also be a result of the jpeg compression in the images I posted. The MYA release does have the episodes "Progressive" encoded (vs. Interlaced).

How early does DVDPacific usually ship pre-orders?

Generally earlier than the release date, but it varies.

Thanks. I ordered Cat in the Brain from them because amazon.ca still hasn't listed it, nor has any other Canadian retailer. I'm wondering if it's created a stir or something because Pieces, The Beyond, etc... are all easy to find on Canadian sites.

Thanks, that would explain it..I thought it was really odd because I hadn't read about it.
Both releases are of the same quality, which is cool.

    I'll rewatch mine soon :)
