anyone seen "Daughter of Darkness"? if so, how is it? is it worth a purchase?
the dvd ocean shores dvd looks like shit but the film is OK IMO
hkflix seems to have two versions of this film on dvd. one is an edited (and OOP) full screen dvd while the other is uncut (and in print) letterboxed dvd.
the ocean shores is the full screen dvd wich I have
This is a Soavi film right? A friend of mine was talking about this recently I think. I've been meaning to pick up this and a few of his other films but haven't got around to it.
No, has nothing to do with Soavi; the Soavi film you are thinking of is The Sect (aka Daughter of Darkness US video title, I have a poster for it too).
The HK Daughter of Darkness is a 1993 rape/killer Categroy 3 (Chinas R/NC-17 rating) b-film, about a girl abused by her stepfather, ignored by her family, who then goes psycho. In typical HK fashion, it (unevenly?) straddles the line between dark perverse drama and outright silly black humor.
All DVD:s are cut, the only UNCUT version is the old OOP HK VCD from oceanshores
i realize that now. i read on one site that mentioned some stuff cut and even the "uncut" dvd had some stuff missing.
I just watched this movie about a week ago. I've got the Oceanshore's VCD.
Movie itself is ok, but it's not something that I'll be rewatching any time soon. Like a previous poster said, lots of slapstick black humor with some drama thrown in.
A review of the film I read on a site said the 2nd installment wasn't as shocking as this one. IMO that isn't saying much, since I didn't find it shocking at all.
