The response on this board to the new DAWN OF THE DEAD remake has been inspiring either wholehearted praise or downright scathing reception. For the sake of a simplified argument, where do you fit?

Yay. I've learned to be not so critical of films these days. I knew the satire would be gone, it would not be as violent, and it would not be as long, so I didn't go in expecting those things and came out of the film pleasantly surprised.

I think the internet has created an atmosphere where you must either trash a movie, or completely praise it, with no in between. With that in mind, I praise this movie!

I'm actually right in the middle on it. For me, the good equalled the bad.

I thought it was pretty good. It would of been better without the fast zombies

I loved it too - there were some holes, but I resolved that it was putting forth enough effort to let those go.

Just about any movie has holes in it if it involves horror, science fiction, fantasy, or even action. I thought this movie was great, though I think the fast zombies will make it certain that it's going to be hard to do sequels and have them be nearly as good.
When the zombies are faster it's not going to be entertaining to see people forestall the inevitible only to eventually be destroyed over and over again the way they were in this picture.

I'm hoping it will be like the success of the original where we'll see some interesting ripoffs and variations some of which will probably at least be decent.

And personally, I thought the use of Johnny Cash's "The Man Comes Around" in the opening credits was probably one of the best uses of music I've ever seen in any movie. I didn't like the other songs they used, but I thought they were pretty restrained in their use of songs compared to a lot of other recent films. We're talking about maybe 10 minutes tops, and that's including the closing credits. The instrumental music isn't remarkable in any way, but at least it's not distracting. Had they tried to emulate Goblin I don't think it would have worked--it would have taken people out of the movie and made it seem too dated.

Huge yay from me! Excellent film to say the least. I've seen it four times now, and it holds up every time.

I liked it, I actually liked the idea of fast zombies. To me it gave it a more "we really have to run for our fuckin lives" feel. When zombies are just lagging around, that gets boring to me.

    I'm also in the middle.
I liked a lot of this movie, and it was all going at a nice pace in a good direction until
that stupid little girl went to get the fucking dog. The zombie baby was a pretty bad idea too, but nowhere near as bad as that stupid bitch. They should've shot her when they went for the guns and ammo!

I liked it. The fast zombies weren't as bad as I thought they would be, though I wish the filmmakers could have found a happy medium between the uber-slow zombies of the original and the lightning fast ones of this film (in 28 DAYS LATER having the infected be fast worked because they were still alive even though they performed the same function to the plot as real zombies, but the ones in the new DAWN are truly dead).

I actually found the new DAWN to be more exciting and suspenseful than 28 DAYS LATER, though not as well acted and written.

This movie kills 28 Days Later and is better than the original. :fucked:
