Wow. For a second I was mad I found the dvd at a pawn shop a few weeks before the BD was announced. After reading those 2 reviews, I'm happy as hell I got that dvd! Cross this off the list of things to upgrade.
Another negative review: http://www.blu-raydefinition.com/reviews/the-deadly-spawn-millennium-edition-blu-ray-review.html
After all the comments and reviews on blu-ray.com, I'm not even bothering to open mine. Back to Amazon it goes, and I'm ordering the 8-year-old DVD instead.
Looks like Ted wants his movie to look better. He made this post on Blu-Ray Forum: "Announcement #1 We are testing right now with a transfer directly from the negative. We should have test disks within a week or so. Don't ask anything else yet as I'll post when I have more info."
Unless the Synapse logo is plastered on the cover art, I ain't touching this. It's quite clear Elite hasn't a clue as to what the hell they are doing.
Why didn't they strike the transfer from the negative in the first place? :eek2: It's pretty obvious they simply sourced the 8+ year old transfer and applied multiple forms of digital manipulation, and it ended up looking worse than the old DVD.
I just want to know if there's going to be an exchange program put into place for those (like myself) who purchased this piece of shit.
Cause then they would have to spend money on a decent transfer, where as if they just upconvert it they can make money!!!!
I read the reviews before opening my copy, sent it back to Amazon unopened for a refund, and bought the Synapse DVD instead. This new blu they're hinting at better look as good as The Ten Commandments before I spend another dime.
A promising look at the new transfer: http://wtf-film.com/site/2012/03/09/the-deadly-spawn-blu-ray-update/
That's fantastic. It's definitely more bright and vivid than the Synapes dvd transfer. Looks like this will be the release to get when it comes out.
Looks good, I just hope there's some kind of replacement program for those of us stuck with the terrible first release.
There's only another version in the works because the owner (possibly director?) of the film was incredibly dissatisfied with how the Elite blu looked and the response it was getting. This lead him to source out the original negatives to put together an actual hi-def transfer.
