Easily Duel, with The Hitcher coming up a close second.

Duel is easily the best, but I don't care I like The Devil's Rain best so it gets my vote.

Voted for Duel, great movie. I also liked the Duel ripoff segment in Nightmares.

I'm torn between Duel, The Car, and The Hills Have Eyes. I love them all.

...had to go with The Car though!

DUEL is the better movie but I think it's less of a ''desert" movie than THE HITCHER.ROAD GAMES is underrated too.

Desert settings are cool but underused in the genre. My choice falls on easily on The Car, one of my all time favourites. It's stylish and elegantly shot, it has an excellent cast, and it even manages to build up a little tension. And what's more, it uses the desert setting really well - I love those shots of the car approaching in the distance, so tiny as to be almost unnoticable, except for the clouds of dust it whirls up.

Awesome idea for a poll! Plenty of ideal choices, but my vote clearly goes to The Car. Tense direction, moody cinematography, menacing score, and lots of spooky atmosphere. RG Armstrong (the sheriff from Race with the Devil) is always creepy. I'll probably include this movie in my October horror marathon.

The Devil's Rain, Gargoyles, Duel, and The Hitcher are all great films too. I love the desert and generally enjoy films with this particular setting.

Definitely Oasis of the Zombies... ... ...

Joking of course, Hills Have Eyes for me. The trailer scene kills me EVERY time.

I went with THE HILLS HAVE EYES, but I think MIRAGE is definitely worthy of the list. Cujo recommended it earlier this year, and I can't think of a film that better utilizes the desert setting. It's one of the few films to make the open desert look so stylish and frightening in total daylight.

I almost voted "Other" for Tremors, but I actually kinda like The Hitcher a little bit more.

I still stand by my vote of The Car, but another 70's desert horror film I always enjoyed is Werewolves on Wheels. Call it an honorable mention.
