    From Deadites.net:

According to Variety, Sam Raimi is returning to his genre roots to direct "Drag Me to Hell", a supernatural thriller, written with his brother Ivan under Ghost House Pictures. Afterwards he will take on of the Hobbit films for New Line and MGM since Peter Jackson said he won't be returning to direct.

    Awesome.

As much as I love The Gift (and I do love The Gift), I didn't get that impression, and I'm glad for it.

I'd rather have Evil Dead 4 than the Hobbit film. Too bad Jackson wouldn't direct it.

If this movie falls through, I will be just beyond devastated. I have long dreamed of Sam going back to horror, but thought all was lost. Now, he is not only doing this but may do The Hobbit too? Am I dreaming?

"Sam calls it a 'spook-a-blast,' a wild ride with all the chills and spills that 'Evil Dead' delivered, without relying on the excessive violence of that film"

so its another pg-13 shitfest from ghost house?

That'd be my guess. Although Spider-Man 2 kept my faith going with the operating room sequence, I've always had a tinge of doubt about Raimi's horror credentials since he continually watered down the Evil Dead franchise.

It's more distressing to hear Jackson won't be doing The Hobbit himself. Raimi doesn't have the right sense of humor for it. He's a little too cruel. Jackson's much more lighthearted.

    I'm not expecting much.

I wrote off Raimi quite some time ago as being a sellout that wants nothing to do with horror, and I don't think this "spookablast" will do ANYTHING to change my mind.

Despite the greatness of the Evil Dead series, I have never regarded Raimi as a, um, Master of Horror, I guess you could say. He made a low budget gorefest to get his foot in the door and as his budgets improved and he had more freedom, his true colors shown, turning the Evil Dead franchise into the three stooges. I don't really see him as a sell-out as I don't think that he ever wanted to be a horror director to begin with. Needless to say, in terms of horror, I think Raimi is spent. We'll see how this turns out.

Erm, yeah - that's what Evil Dead was.

Raimi making a horror film isn't in the least exciting - and afterwards he's going to make The Hobbit.... wow, how genre...... Look at the horror films he's produced and you'll see what this is likely to be - crap.

Mr. D over at Bloody Disgusting got a chance to check out a work-in-progress test screening of Drag Me to Hell and he's raving about it:

All he needed to add was "Literally!" to the end of that sentence.

Another positive "review," from the same screening, courtesy of Ryan Rotten over at Shock Till You Drop. Whereas Mr. Disgusting's "review" made the film sound R-rated, Rotten says it will be "PG-13."

I'm more than willing to eat crow if these reviews are true. I was actually one of the few fans of Spider-Man 3 so if Raimi remains Raimi then I'm sure I'll be pleased with the results.

So far those reviews are giving me a bit of a spine tingle, and I'm actually now pretty pumped to see this one. Here's hoping the final cut doesn't fuck it up, and maybe Raimi can work his way back in my good books. We'll see...

I hope it is as good as they say. Is there any type of release date?
