Eegah! Dreamcatcher is a mess but started off pretty good actually. The first 30 minutes or so are promising and held my interest: Four friends with "psychic powers" (telepathy) are planning one of their annual hunting trips to a shared cabin in the woods. When they finally arrive things are starting to get very weird. First they encounter a man who seems to be suffering from gastrointestinal problems ... he later reliefs (bloody butt alert!) himself on the toilet leaving a nasty little surprise behind. Soon after the military shows up and before you know it Dreamcatcher turns into a sci-fi alien invasion flick ... And make that a big budget sci-fi alien invasion flick that looks like it was made by Troma. It's hard to believe Warner Bros are actually behind this schlocky and gooey sci-fi mess. The special effects are top notch no doubt, the creatures look awesome and kick major ass. There's also some really beautiful and breathtaking winter cinematography, something I haven't seen since, well, The Shining? The atmosphere is there but Dreamcatcher is obviously suffering from a bad script and an uninspired director (Lawrence Kasdan). Morgan Freeman (having a bad hair and eyebrow day) has some of the worst dialogues recently written and most of the "key" scenes are unintentional hilarious (using a gun as a "psychic" telephone? harharhar). Confusing (It took me some time to figure out who or what "Mr. Grey" is/was, but I knew right away "Duddits" was an Spoiler alien , duh!), not really scary, Dreamcatcher fails as a (serious) sci-fi/drama it wants to be - but kinda semi-delivers if you're a bad cinema lover ... The choice is yours :eek2: Video: Anamorphic 2.35:1 Widescreen. The video transfer looks magnificent! Colors are brilliant and sharpness is terrific. Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 Solid bass, crisp and clear sound all the way. Greatness! Extras: TV spots, Theatrical teaser, Stephen King interview, making-of and special effects featurette. Haven't checked out any of those but I did watch the deleted scenes (4) including the original ending which kinda sucked.
