Horrible. Might even be worse than the Prom Night remake.
It's easily one of the worst remakes to date. At least Prom Night had a budget.
there is one other still from the back of an Australian VHS cover:
I found the remake at Big Lots for $3. At that price, I figured what the hell, give it a chance.
Well, I watched it, and the warnings were right. The remake is horrible. It was full of stupid WTF? shit, the characters were all annoying, and the twist setup was easy to figure out. Despite being unrated and directed by the "Butcher Brothers," there wasn't even any gore. Even for the measly $3, it was bad.
The "good girl" whose death set everything in motion worked with developmentally disabled children. It should have had some angry retards killing all of the rich assholes for revenge. Now that could have been a cool movie!
I warned you not to to watch the April Fool's Day remake tonight.
We all warned you. I rented it and still felt very ripped-off. It would have to be the worst remake I've seen. Maybe the worst ever?
It looked cheep, the actors couldn't act and the hole thing was stupid. This shit was dumber than Black X-mas.
Any word of a Blu in the future here? Or are we stuck in the Paramount vortex? Also, is there any difference between the two standard DVD releases? My dog ate my clone of the older release while I was out skiing today
^ Warner got their mits on it through the Paramount deal, and unfortunately they aren't known for licensing titles. If they release it on blu-ray, it'll be barebones. I want that damn alternate ending!
Also, there's no difference between the two DVD releases besides the cover art.
You and me both. Hopefully that alternate ending still exists and someone like Synapse can get their hands on it down the line. I think it's a great little slasher that deserves royal treatment.
Warner can't even be bothered to release some of Paramount's better-known titles like BREAKDOWN - I imagine something like April Fool's Day is even further down their priorities list. I don't want them to release it anyway since they'll likely just thrown down whatever old master they've got and call it a day. This needs a full SE that includes the infamous cut footage even if it's just as an extra. Anything less would negate the need for an upgrade IMO.
The tv spot for the film was amusing.
And I've always loved the end credits song.
I also stumbled across a copy of the novel adaption at Half Price Books a couple years a go. I skimmed through to read the ending, and it was interesting, but I'm not sure whether it really works. But based on the rarity of the novel and the different ending. I'll pick up a copy the next time I come across it.
