Return of the Evil Dead has EXACTLY the same number of things in common with The Evil Dead that the Dawn of the Dead remake has with the Day of the Dead remake. And that is the truth.

Original Dawn (directed by George A Romero) - Followed by Day (also directed by George)

Regardless of who made the Day remake it would be seen by most as a type of sequel.

It doesn't matter what most people think, The Day of the Dead remake isn't an official sequel. We are not talking about the originals, we are talking about the remakes. The only thing that the two movies have in common is that somebody had the money to buy rights to the titles.

I suppose you think Zombie 2 is the official sequel to Dawn of the Dead, too.

wow. I was completely unaware that a day of the dead remake existed. I thought people were talking about that "contagium" film at first. is it even remotely worth seeing?

It is not. It even stars Ving Rhames in a role not related to his Dawn remake part.

I just checked to see if Youtube had a trailer for the Day of the Dead remake so you could see just how bad it is, the whole damn movie is on there. Watching the trailer though should dispel any ambitions of actually watching the film however.

Nice! Thank you for that. I have to say, that alt ending isn't great and I'm glad they didn't go with that. I couldn't tell if it was trying to be purposely funny when the old man asks Mia if she is ok when her bloody stump is right there in front of him.

It still would have been nice if they included this stuff on the bluray. I'm still confused as to why they aren't working on a sequel for this. I thought this one did pretty well at the box office and got pretty decent reviews?

According to IMDB the movie cost about 17 million and made 54 million just in domestic box office. Seems profitable.

It had the issue of not screening everywhere which would have hurt its gross. They made money off it though so I'm surprised sequel talk died so quickly.

I prefer to think that a sequel hasn't been green lit because Raimi knows how bad the remake turned out. Plus, isn't it being picked up as a TV series?

The remake was great. Probably one of my favorite modern remakes. It's shot exceptionally well, the cinematography is great and moods and the effects are terrific and gross. I'm assuming people who dislike it were wanting slapstick which wasn't there. I always found the first Evil Dead to be grueling and love that the remake kept that dark tone.

As far as I'm aware the tv series is a continuation of the original trilogy which I'm hoping will be good. I don't think it has been confirmed as to whether it will link in the events of the remake.

I'd honestly kind of forgotten about it. maybe that's why...another remake that fades into obscurity as soon as it's been released on disc.

That's a bad assumption. I've already more than expressed my reasons for not liking this movie in this thread ages ago, so there isn't any need for me to revisit that subject.
