I looked at the link and none of the screen shots are from the Blu. The link in the first post thinks the Blu-ray looks much better.

    http://www.dvdauthority.com/reviews.asp?reviewID=5315

"The image is much clearer here, so the visuals seem cleaner and more refined"

Hi-def digest also says it's an improvement.

    http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/970/evildead2.html

    Same with these reviews.

Actually I only found one review site that thought the DVD was better.

    http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Evil-Dead-II-Dead-by-Dawn-Blu-ray-Review/520/

I don't think it's even possible for a DVD to have more detail then a blu-ray. Actually when I first got the blu-ray I didn't think it looked good so I placed my THX version in my Oppo and the Blu in my PS3 with Identical settings. I then switched the inputs back and forth and I could clearly see an improvement on the Blu with both colour an detail. No saying it looks great but better.

    Just watched Within The Woods!

Just watched Within The Woods. I loved it. They better have it on the special features!

I'd always thought and still think the BOTD/Divimax Edition of ED II was beter than the THX Edition. You want to see a film on Blu-Ray that has terrible DVNR? Then see Max Fleischer's Gulliver's Travels (film is great but the new 2009 DVD and Blu-Ray releases are terrible and presented in a matted widescreen!)

I'm not saying the THX transfer is the best possible, but when you can see the pores of the skin with DVD and nothing but a wax figure on Blu-ray there's something wrong. Period.

Wow, the Blu-ray really foes look bad. They might as well put a wick on his head and use him as a candle.

I guess 2.35:1 is now Sam Raimi's preferred ratio

I've always thought that Evil Dead was one of the best looking 16mm films I've seen. Looking forward to this.

Since Spider-Man 2 it is. He was staunch 1.85:1 before that. Much like Vittorio Storaro, he has since gone over to the dark side of Scope.

Seriously though, I figure ED will be 1.77:1 and will again be the heavily manipulated version AB's been putting out for a decade or more now. I'm not even waiting for reviews on this; it's a foregone conclusion this transfer will be fucked.

    :fucked:

I'll wait to see some reviews. Almost any Blu-ray that Anchor Bay has released lately has been SCREWED.

This practice of theirs really irks me... Anchor Bay releases a DVD with a featurette and a trailer (for example), and the film also has optional subtitles. They shortly after release it on Blu-ray, with no special features, no optional subtitles, no lossless/uncompressed audio track. In fact, not even a menu on the Blu-rays, the movie simply "plays".

Now why they don't port any subtitles and the extra features over is just pure laziness. 99% of the time there is plently of space left over for those to be included on even a single-layered Blu-ray.

I'm sure they won't do exactly that for an Evil Dead Blu-ray, but they'll probably find some way to screw it up.

Anchor Bay continues to fall downhill.

Really? The only AB disc that comes to mind with subtitles off the top of my head was Deep Red. I remember quite well that almost all of the releases I have by them don't have any subs.

I'm talking about more recent DVD releases though. Anchor Bay/Starz almost always includes optional English SDH subtitles on DVD releases now.

English SDH subs were also even included on the Blu-ray releases of Evil Dead II, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Hellraiser, Children of the Corn, etc.

If it's not a higher profile Blu-ray release, Anchor Bay/Starz doesn't really care. That's a sad change back from the days when even their obscure DVD releases had the same level of quality control as the major releases.

Ohhhh, alright. Yeah, I remember them being on the ED II blu-ray. I just haven't bought a DVD from them in forever. In fact I had basically jumped ship to Blue Underground until a couple years ago when they started releasing the blu-rays.

    Horrorbid.com gives us an update:

    http://www.horrorbid.com/blog/blog1...l-clas&disp=single&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1#c7856

"The heavens have opened up and spit out the greatest news this Deadite/Bidite has heard in a long time. Anchor Bay Home Entertainment is slated to debut the Blu-ray later this summer, more precisely August 31st! Mark your calenders because this is a must own...

    Follow up:

Details are more than sketchy at this point as we are not sure what the cover art or Blu-ray specs will be. We are hearing that a brand new transfer and completely new audio commentary by Sam and Bruce will most likely make it's presence felt. Rumors of it also containing an updated quality look at the film the started it all "Within the Woods" has us crossing our fingers as well. With the zillion versions of "Army" put out over the years it's great to see the original getting much need attention as well. Stay tuned for more details as we get them."

I would like to note, that if Within The Woods is included on the Blu-Ray, it will most likely contain the re-scored music.

How many times has this film been "remastered?" Didn't Raimi say that Within the Woods would never be released in any format?

Lord, I am so tired of buying new versions of Evil Dead that I may just wait until Raimi, Campbell, et al offer to perform it in my living room.

I love how many people are complaining about this already. Okay yeah we've had like 7 different releases of The Evil Dead, but at least this time it's a high-def blu-ray edition and not just another DVD release. Some new special features? Why not? A new remaster? Why not? Considering it's been years since the movie was actually "remastered" (the various releases by Anchor Bay I believe contained the same transfer, no?)

Bring it on. I'd love to see a new edition of The Evil Dead. At least it's on blu-ray this time...
