As always, there were a number of standout DVD and Blu-ray releases this year. Which was your favorite?

Pieces for me. Always wanted a better copy to replace my Diamond disc. Beyond the Door a VERY close second!

Would you believe that I didn't buy a single one of these DVDs this year? (Well, I bought Final Exam and then sold it, so that doesn't count.)

Oh and I got Child's Play. Not because it's my fav, because the new SE was $4.99 at Best Buy.

    But yeah...nothing for me.

The Mist for me - I really enjoyed the movie, and having both color and black and white versions is pretty cool.

Pieces for me, because I just never expected to get it in such good quality with extras even. The Mist and Vampyr were also pretty amazing.

As much as I love seeing Pieces in good quality, Vampyr gets the nod from me. An excellent package for an excellent film.

Picked up The Unseen (meh, just alright), Final Exam (haven't watched), Child's Play (haven't watched), Pumpkinhead (loved it), The Mist (loved it), Sweet Sixteen (haven't watched), Savage Streets (a blind buy that I loved), Phenomena and Tenebre (haven't watched either), but I have to go with Pieces. The movie's just relentlessly entertaining, the video quality is good and the extras are a lot of fun.

There's been a handful of great discs to come out this year, but the Pieces disc is the one I'm most excited about.

A tie between Final Exam (would never sell this) and The Unseen.

Gotta give props to the Class of 1999 release in the non horror area.

Faces of Death... The commentary alone is worth it. The dvd uncovers the entire process of making it and finally reveals the facts and the fiction.

Lots of good stuff, but I chose PSYCHO, because it's the special edition DVD I've been holding out about a decade for.

Or "Pscyho" as rhett calls it.

I chose Sweet Sixteen, simply because I've always loved the movie and I'm glad that it finally got a worthy release. Code Red did a nice job on that one, especially including both cuts of the film.

Pieces is my favorite. Pumpkinhead is a close second. Great to finally pick up Tenebre. Have really enjoyed Simon - King of the Witches and Beyond the Door. Still have not watched my Sweet Sixteen and Savage Streets dvds.

Yeah, I already have the Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection which has the same remastered anamorphic transfer as this edition. I didn't see the need to upgrade, personally. (There was what, an extra commentary or something? Not worth it.) But if you don't own the Masterpiece Collection, then yeah this had to have been the release of the year. The movie was screaming for an anamorphic release. I think it was one of the only titles from the Masterpiece Collection that WASN'T released individually.

Pieces was a deluxe surprise for me. Nice treatment and package.

Honorable mention to Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat, which also surprised me with its Waxwork/Waxwork 2 connections and finally gave me an Anthony Hickox commentary.

2008 was a great year for DVD releases.

I wouldn't call SAVAGE STREETS a "horror" film but its treatment gets my top vote.

THE UNSEEN would come next (my God - 2 Discs?) and then the clean up of PIECES.

I was glad to see MAUSOLUEM out but the sound quality was bad and it was not uncut.

CHILDS PLAY was easily the best S.E. from a major studio.

Honorable mentions that were also released in 2008: THE NANNY (w/Bette Davis), HELLO MARY LOU: PROM NIGHT II, DEADLY BEES.
