From this list - I especially love Kill Bill, Vigilante, Oldboy, and The Crow. None compares to the original Death Wish however. Charles Bronson is the greatest revenge icon as far as I'm concerned.

Some other revenge favorites missing I would like to mention are: the 1991 remake of Cape Fear, The Limey, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (a.k.a. Shaolin Master Killer), and Crippled Avengers (a.k.a. Return of the 5 Deadly Venoms). The last two are Shaw Brothers kung fu grindhouse classics. Much of the Shaw filmography falls under the revenge heading.

One film on the list I have never seen is Rolling Thunder. Sure hope we get a legit dvd release of this in the near future.

Death Wish still holds up after all these years. The same can't be said for some of the imitators that followed this classic. The Punisher would be my second pick. It borders on the cheesy and may not be faithful to the excellent comic series, but it's still cool in my book. It's a shame that Jane wont be in the sequel. :(

I'm a dirty whore for anything Linda Blair is in. I have to go with the gawdawful sleaze opus Savage Streets. Bonus points for the scene with Linda smoking a cigarette while taking a bath!

I picked I Spit On Your Grave.

Other great examples of the revenge subgenre: Last House on the Left, Fight For Your Life, House on the Edge of the Park, and Mother's Day.

And don't forget Death Proof as a more recent revenge film.

    The Crow.

I Spit on Your Grave, Straw Dogs, Thriller: A Cruel Picture, Kill Bill, and Old Boy all come in a very close second.

I'll throw my vote to ROLLING THUNDER from what is listed, but I really think Sergio Leone's ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST is one of the great revenge flicks,it deserves a slot.

I love Once Upon a Time in the West and I almost included it on here. In the end, though, I know Leone never considered it a revenge film. He wanted to make a love letter to the western, which he felt (and rightfully so) was dying out. The story is more about the death of an era than revenge, in my opinion. But, that's why there's an "other" option because there were so many titles I wanted to include but couldn't, due to space restrictions.

  14. The Crow. Straw Dogs almost made it, though.

  15. CHARLES MOTHERFUCKING BRONSON. Yeah, Thriller had hardcore anal sex but did it have a guy kicking ass with a sock full of quarters??? Fuck no... Death Wish hands down. Fuck, Death Wish is like the Halloween of revenge flicks.

My fave revenge film is John Trents Vengeance is Mine made in 74. It was a big staple of 80s video stores and featured Ernest Borgnine on a big garish box brandishing a shotgun. Borgnine is adequatre in the main role of an avenging farmer and Michael J Pollard costars. This is a guilty pleasure in need of a dvd release.

I had to go with Straw Dogs although Oldboy is a close second. The Crow kicks ass as well because it's more of a popcorn flick so it's easier to watch than a lot of these. Still, I haven't seen many of the films on the list. Of course, torture usually precedes the revenge in these movies and that really isn't my cup of tea.

I went with Ms. 45 great film. I know it's not the best revenge film ever but I loved it. I got the poster for it too. :)
