Here you go. Just like the title suggests, what's your favorite Blu Ray distributor company. I didn't include major film companies like Lions Gate, Warner, Sony, etc... Lot's of factors can go into your decisions. The movies themselves, quality, customer wants, variety, etc... And this doesn't have to be just about horror movies either. Take all film genres in account in making your choice. And since there are so many, I set it where you could choose up to 3 selections. P.S. - I apologize if I left out so many, there are seriously hundreds & hundreds of small companies. Many of which put out a R2 version of what's already out there. I tried my best to list the ones that most people here on this forum know. Update: I added 2 more Anchor Bay & Mondo Macabro. Bay is probably the bigggest of the bunch, but beyond their more mainstream releases, they have a lot of 80's films dealing in horror and comedy.
Scream Factory, Criterion, and Arrow. If I'd had to pick one, it would have been Scream Factory. Things like the Halloween 6 Producer's Cut or the Nightbreed Cabal Cut, or the upcoming Exorcist 3 Director's Cut...amazing.
Mondo Macabro, so small they don't even make your list. I buy everything they put out and never regretted it. Synapse is an ever so close second. They were absolutely THEE company I wanted to have Suspiria. I own every Something Weird release and it's unfortunate they're only a MOD/streaming company now as I don't out and out buy into that like I can with physical media. Though I'll probably have to soon enough.
Arrow and VS for me. They are consistent and release a lot. Love Synapse, M. Macabro and the like but the wait is often too long.
Scream/Shout Factory was my vote although I would also choose Arrow and possibly VS. Larger parts of my small distributor collection is from Scream Factory.
I went with Arrow, Shout, and VS--although Criterion would have been voted if I could have 4 choices.
Vinegar Syndrome, Olive, and Kino seem to be the ones that have been getting my money of late, followed by Arrow. Shout Factory seems to me to be a bit too big to be considered a "little" guy. I bet they have at least double the number of employees on the payroll that the other four companies do, combined.
Yeah, but if Shout/Scream doesn't count, Criterion probably shouldn't either. Not necessarily saying you're wrong, though.
That's why in my description I stated not "major" film distributors. They are no where near the top guys like Sony, Warner, Universal, etc... imho. I tried to list companies that mostly deal in horror, cult, exploitation, 80's films. Stuff like that. Like I said there are literally hundreds of companies. Listed 17. Those 17 seem to be talked about on this forum at one time or another. P.S.- It's actually 19 now. I added two more. Yes, Anchor Bay(would be the biggest of the 19) releases a lot of new movies and TV but they have a catalog of a lot of older horror & 80's fair that major companies don't put out, that imo people want.
I added Mondo Macabro. I forgot about them. They have a decent amount of unique Blu's movies. Thanks.
You didn't need to explain your rationale to me a second time. That said there is a wide gulf in the business operations of Shout and every other company in this poll. They are far closer to working on the level of Lionsgate or Anchor Bay than they are of a one or two man operation like Severin or Vinegar Syndrome. I wouldn't be surprised if they began producing their own original features if they haven't done so already.
