There's a lot of great movies on the list that I like. But I've always loved The Gate, so that easily gets my vote. I still remember seeing it in the theater on it's original release.
Since it is a vote for the title I went with The Boogens. Most of the others have normal words in them, with Boogens you have no idea what the hell it is about. Is it a dance movie? horror movie? or perhaps about a sneeze?
The Boogens. Because what the fuck is a boogens? Always loved that title, and it always caught me off guard passing the VHS at the video store as a kid. Great movie though.
Keeping with the poll intent - the titles of the film rather than the quality of the film itself... 1) The Beyond - wonderfully vague title that promises anything *but* the ordinary. Come to think of it, I think I've been hooked by just about every horror film I've heard of with beyond in the title....The Beyond, From Beyond, The World Beyond, From Beyond the Grave, Beyond Re-animator, Tales From Beyond... 2) The Pit - implies something unknown and nasty in a deep dark hole. Sold! 3) The Strangeness - it just *has* to be strange, right? 4) The Fog - is it the fog...or something in the fog...or something during the fog...did I mention yet there is something creepy about fog? 5) The Changeling - something switched at birth and pretending to be human, which turns into something nasty as it grows up....oh, wait, it's actually a haunted house film?
I like The Howling---creepy title that really helps to sell the movie. Came close to picking The Burning, though. Just sounds horrible and painful. When I was a kid I thought it was about some guy setting people on fire [at the time I wasn't aware of DON'T GO IN THE HOUSE.]
Where's "The STUFF"? My vote on title alone would go to "The Stuff" but I opted for my favorite film of the bunch- "The Beyond"- since "The Stuff" wasn't an option.
Thank you, I voted for other cause I loved The Stuff as a kid. I wish who ever had the rights for this would bring it out on blu. But if I had to pick a second it would be The Howling.
If that's the case, shouldn't The Shining be disqualified too? The novel came out in the 70s if I'm not mistaken. My vote goes to The Shining, with The Fog as a runner-up.
Read the first post... "Also, remakes like The Thing, The Fly, The Blob were not included since the title originated in another decade."
The Shining.Just it's title is evocative of something supernatural. One of the best movies ever made IMHO.
