Since we like to take our sweet ass time giving you our in-depth, picture-laden reviews, we figured starting up this "First Look" segment would help in giving you the news about the discs as soon as possible without having to wait for our full-featured review. The reviews are forthcoming, but for now here's some stills of the new anamorphic Anchor Bay discs for Dario Argento's TENEBRE and PHENOMENA.

I haven't had much time to pick through them yet, but so far they look very clean, the colors very vibrant, and well, everything anamorphic! I'll be exploring them this weekend, but for now, satiate your impulses with photos seeped with the lovely Argento aroma.

The discs street separately this coming Tuesday, May 27th, or together in a compact steelbook box set along with THE CARD PLAYER, TRAUMA and DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK? The individual discs retail for $19.98, and the box set $49.98. More to come in the review section.

I'll be getting both. Plus this will be my first time viewing of Tenebre, so I'm very very excited. Can't hardly wait!

Crap on a pita! I didnt realize this set was due out so soon. I hope I get my tax rebate before Tuesday!

Best Buy has it listed for $42.99, I will probably pick it up there unless you guys can suggest somewhere cheaper.

But - is the missing sequence from Tenebrae - however small - now present? That's the key!

You're in for a treat. Tenebre is one of Argento's best and the soundtrack is my favorite among all of his films.

The above pictures look great! I never grabbed Tenebre, so this will be one of my very next purchases.

Does anyone know if Card Player, Trauma, Phenomena and Tenebre are flagged for progressive scan or are they interlaced?

Ok, I know Phenomena was released as "Creepers" stateside right? And it was heavily cut and edited?

Is this the uncut full length film?

Too lazy to look it up, but it's either the Roan/Anchor Bay version from 1999, or the "Integral Hard" version which is slightly longer. Despite its name, the "Hard" version adds a few scenes of dialogue, but no more violence or plot development. Creepers, however, is missing a LOT of the violence as well as important plot and character development.

Bottom line is, you should be seeking out this new version more for the improved image quality.

I'm willing to bet come Tuesday these DVD's will be nowhere to be found. I'm referring to retail chain stores not online. Hopefully I can track these DVD's down easily which is rare. I always have the worse luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed for now.

The new discs are progressive. Card Player, Trauma and Hitchcock are all the older releases, so if memory serves me correct that means they are all interlaced. At least Hitchcock definitely was.

With tax and the price of gas, I'd rather wait. I usually get my DD/DVDP orders in a week.

I can get you screenshot if you need them for comparing quality (I have the region 4 discs of both films). The third picture from Phenomena looks a little more blue and purple than I remember, it does seem clearer too.

Also, what’s this missing Tenebre scene?

The discs are uncut I’ll probably be picking them up, just for the better picture quality.

Well... No. I've never seen the film and if it's still heavily edited, then I'm going to stay away from it.
