in anticipation of the new releases i sold my old anchor bay DVDs at 20 bucks a piece. I knew i was taking a big risk if the new releases were in any way inferior. Thankfully they are at least the same if not better, and i payed only $11.99 each for the new discs. so my collection is complete again and i have an additional $15 dollars in my pocket. WHEW! that could have been a disaster. too bad Tenebre wasn't improved aside from the 16x9 enhancement. but the extra sharpness on Phenomena is a major plus.
I've been holding off on Blu-ray until now. Once the Argento and Fulci films make an appearance I will make the transition.

Dude it's the only way to go. :glasses:
After spending so much cash on a new TV and HD etc I'm sure as hell not buying reissued SD DVD. Blu Ray or nothing. I still have the old Anchor Bay releases and they will sit tight until a Blu Ray release . In saying that I watched the old Anchor Bay Suspiria and Inferno upscaled to 1080P on a PS3 on a my 46" screen and they looked pretty good. All those greens/blues and reds in Suspiria were amazing. Can only dream what the Blu Ray version would look like:banana:

    Phenomena didn't look too hot though. Doesn't help that's it's non-anamorphic:mad:

I've been lucky enough to be able to rent these. I've never owned them on region 1. So no doubt I will try my best to find these on Tuesday. I have the Japanese Tenebre and the Shadows DVD also. Still I want to have these on region 1.

Now where the frak is is Fulci's The Beyond reissue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just ordered the boxset from Deep Discount...so it should be here by the end of June.

Weirdly my HMV has lots of these. $39.95 for the boxset, so I'm going to bite despite owing the previous editions.

You can say that again. And they have some of the most retarded employees on Earth...errrr at this store at least.

I found Tenebre and Phenomena at Hastings for $13.99 each.

They also had the "Steel Book" set for $34.99, but I just don't need the other discs. It's the same size as a normal DVD keepcase in depth, and just didn't look very appealing personally.

Nope. Phenomena and Tenebre are released in standard keepcases.

Only the "collection" is a Steel Book package.

I thought that might be the case. I would have loved to have a steel book of Tenebre and Phenomena.

There's speculation over on AVManaics that the Tenebre DVD is a zoom in on the original analog master, instead of being a new telecine. This is based on the fact that the new DVD has the same exact cut of the film, which was in and of itself reportedly an accidentally shortened version.

worth buying the box for a few extra features? I have the original phenomena from anchor bay and the 16/9 Medusa release of the intergral cut. Have the card player region 2, tenebrae the region 2 anchorbay ( 16/9) and the uncut dutch release, anchorbays do you like hitchcock, and the region 2 from optimum of trauma

    what to do?

Anchor Bay is one of perhaps three remaining studios that actually give DVDs nice covers rather than use the "fill background > paste three ballon heads" template that others use...

I wonder how much it would cost them to stuck the unofficial Phenomena / Suspiria adaptation, "The First Fear", onto the "Phenomena" disc, along with a free copy of ZSNES for emulation... ;)

It's idling. I got stuck with an onslaught of work in the middle of it, and then when I finally did get a few moments I opted to review newer fare first before finishing up this beast. PAPAYA: LOVE GODDESS OF THE CANNIBALS just did a real number on me - the review will be up tomorrow, but rest assured I will be wrapping up TENEBRE shortly thereafter.

That's cool. I just thought it had been forgotten. Good to hear it's still happening.

TENEBRE looks poor. Looks like the same transfer in 16/9.

could u describe the squence the only edits i know are this: (from dvdcompare.net)

(Anchor Bay) - No censor cuts, but a few moments are missing due to a production oversight, and due to print damage.
