CLASSIC MEDIA BRINGS THE JAPANESE MONSTER OF MASS DESTRUCTION TO DVD WITH THE RELEASE OF THE ORIGINAL GOJIRA (aka GODZILLA).
The Complete, Uncut, Japanese Original Available on DVD
For the First Time Ever On September 5, 2006

The Release is Part of a Monster DVD 2-Pack, Which Includes Both Gojira
And the US Version, Godzilla: King of the Monsters

NEW YORK, NY (March 10, 2006) – Move over King Kong! Godzilla is back! On September 5, Classic Media will release the complete, uncut, Japanese original, Gojira (Godzilla), on DVD for the first time ever in the US. From legendary Japanese filmmaker Ishiro Honda, Gojira quickly became a monster classic. Gojira will only be available as part of a special DVD 2-pack that also includes the re-edited US version, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, starring Raymond Burr. Both versions have been digitally remastered in HD widescreen. The Gojira/Godzilla: King of the Monsters DVD 2-pack stomps onto retail shelves late summer for $21.98 SRP.

Robert Mayo, SVP of Home Video at Classic Media, said, β€œIt’s really exciting to be able to finally bring this classic film to DVD for the American audience. Fans have been looking forward to the release of Gojira for several years.”

    *****************
Apparently on that same day they are also re-issuing the 5 Godzilla films they previously released on DVD which should include Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Godzilla's Revenge, Terror Of Mechagodzilla and I'm thinking maybe Rodan. All are supposed to have the Japanese original and U.S. releases included.

This is awesome news. This is how Godzilla should be released. In the original uncut Japanese version with subtitles and the U.S. releases with the original AIP dubs. Sony, take notice. If CM pulls this off I'll be the happiest G-fan on the planet.

I should also note that CM has said there was a discrepancy in their press release and while both orignal versions of Godzilla have been remastered, they are NOT in widescreen. They will be in their OAR of 1.37:1.

This is awesome news so long as they keep the old-school dubs intact. Maybe they can include 2 english audio tracks to keep both camps happy.

I also wouldn't mind a nice boxset too.

I was lucky enough to see GOJIRA in its' original cut in a theater in 2004,and it truly is a deeper, darker experience, quite a moody film.I really look forward to the new dvd.

I read on the forum at Monster Zero that on the same day, CM will be releasing a 7 disc set of G films, for $70 no less!! This of course, includes the original, Godzilla Raids Again, G vs Mothra, Ghidrah, G's Revenge, Monster Zero and Terror of MG. This will definately be the boxset to get!! I can't wait. Oh yeah, seems CM has a little G site up at http://www.godzillaondvd.com/ . Not much up there now, but I imagine it'll get updated in the months to follow.

  14. I've been wanting to see teh Japanese version of Godzilla for quite some time now. I'm all over it like a porn queen on cock!!!

HOLY FUCKING CHRIST! As a Big G fan for almost 20 years this has got to be the best news ever. Original Japanese versions AND the US cuts I grew up on? Classic Media just moved WAY up on my list of favorite DVD companies.
