I would too, but I think the genie's kind of out of the bottle at this point. The Michael Myers character is just far to ingrained within the Halloween franchise, at this point, to take a chance on taking the franchise back in another direction.

Oh definitely. I think it's much better than the theatrical cut and the new tranfer they've done for it looks great.

Does it? I need to watch it again. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a quick cash in movie. I didn't see it when it was originally released.

For me I only like H20 for Jamie Lee's scenes. How the whole time she's on the edge. Like that drinking scene when she's not even finished yet asking for a refill. And then going off when she sees her son ditching school for off campus lunch. The tone of the movie doesn't really hit the original Halloween that much till the end though. I believe I reviewed it for one October month. I really don't like how the movie starts with an almost comedic scene.

No risk no reward. They just need to do it and sell it. They will have little problem going out there and saying that this new movie is good. They were selling those crap Rob Zombie Halloween movies. All they have to do is say the different stories are what Carpenter originally wanted to do. Perhaps hint that a Myers or another boogeyman type could show up in a future entry. That would be something I look forward to every year or two.

    Only a rumor but:

    Loved her since Arrested Development.

Sounds like HII is no longer part of this film's timeline, making this a much more interesting project.

A small Carpenter video interview. Worth watching.

I wish I could be more excited about this movie. The original is perfect. Part II is kind of ok. But for me definitely weaker than the original. I can't see this new movie once again going over the events or ending of Halloween H20. That's probably my biggest problem with it. If this new movie is the true ending then H20 was the ending I wanted to see.

Always liked the ending in H20, even if Part 8 took a big shit on top of it. Have any other series done this? H20 ignores Parts 3 thru 6 and now this one ignores 2-8? Not to mention the remakes. I'm glad to ignore those.

I guess Star Trek has probably done this several times over.

I can't think of a movie series that ignores or reboots over that many versions to go back to an original version. Most that I can think of are just plain reboots like the Spider-Man and James Bond movies. Star Trek reboot tried the time travel alternate universe trick to keep fans happy. But they aren't happy and there are rumors about going back or seeing those original characters again. Star Wars did the erase what happened in the books for The Force Awakens.

There aren't that many long running movie franchises to check and see if this has happened that often.

Godzilla, most obviously. Many of the sequels refer back to the original 1954 film as canon, but act like all of the others in the franchise never happened.

Also, Jason Goes To Hell, Jason X, and Freddy Vs. Jason seem to live in distinct separate universes from each other, and none of them acknowledge or explain how Jason came back from being dissolved with toxic sludge in the sewers of NYC.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre too. Part 3 is a sequel to the first. So is The Next Generation and Chainsaw 3D.

  15. I never thought Jason was dissolved from the toxic waste. I assume he washed out to the river and that his bubbly mutated features in JGTH were from the toxic waste.

I always figured child Jason was a hallucination of Rennie's...

As for H20. It was the intention of Jamie Lee and Steve Miner to also ingore Part 2 despite the whole bro and sis thing not existing until 2. They both hate that film and wanted it to be a sequel to the original only.

Laurie's son says "You said you watch him burn", which happened at the end of part 2, not the original.
But might have been the producers, wanting a connection to the sequel.

  17. You're right.

Curtis and Miner wanted to ignore it but simply couldn't.

Ha. Sure, JC. Statements like this one smack of marketing hype. Michael's fate will be decided by the box office, not his creator. The citizens of Haddonfield won't be safe until the studios can't squeeze another nickel out of The Shape. Forgive me my cynicism, but we're talking about a film series where decapitation failed to slow down the lead character.
