I've always operated under the possible delusion that the vast majority of Halloween fans have a strong preference for H4. But Rhett and Chunkblower's strong advocacy of H5 has me wondering. Am I nuts?

I enjoy both but think H4 is vastly superior. Agree? Disagree? Make your case here.

Should be a fun poll, but I've always felt the contrarian when advocating for H5. Did it several years ago when I picked it #1 for a top ten and got flak for it, and I got an equal amount today. Halloween 4 is your meat and potatoes slasher flick and appeals to a pretty broad crowd, I won't deny that. Halloween 5 is more like an Almas caviar or ratatouille, initially it may not be appealing, but if you take your time with it you can appreciate the finer delicacies and end up enjoying it a lot more. Plus, Michael cries. Never forget.

Halloween 5 is more colorful in its kills, characters and Halloween decorations. Instead of failing terribly in a boring mess to become like the original in H4, it's itself and becomes its own film and despite clown cops, one year napping and a mansion Myers home, it's a solid slasher flick.

I love both, but actually prefer Halloween 5 perhaps a bit more.

Definitely going with part 5. People seem to hold 4 in high esteem, but I've always found it more hackneyed than 5. Michael hiding underneath the truck and the god awful mask are just a few egregious elements of the film. Of course, 5 is even more ludicrous, but it goes about it's story in a more gleeful and energetic manner. Also, Donald Pleasance just might give his best line delivery of the entire series. Michael's revenge is much more engaging than his return.

Back in the day I prefered 5 but now that I'm older and a tad bit wiser I see that they both suck.

Halloween 4 by far. It's my favorite of the series after part 1. I find it to be very suspenseful with great characterization. I'm very confused about all the love for part 5. I could only see liking it in a "so bad its good" ironic kind of way. That movie is a mess to me.

I agree with fattyjoe, part 4 is far superior and my favorite sequel of the series.

I used to think part 5 was underrated, but after looking through this thread apparently it's not. And a lot of people seem to bash Tina, but I like her! It's a fun sequel, but it's not in the same league as part 4.

Should have been an option. Poll should be altered accordingly.

    Body Boy, I was thinking more like this;

Go to 21:19 for the scene. The whole of it is good. Silly dialogue, but Mr. Pleasence delivers it in earnest.

Just because people here have banded together, doesn't mean that it's not still underrated. H5 is only at 33.33% still. :( Sadfaceness...

Yeah dude, that scene is great for Pleasance! But Cookie Woman will forever be my love <3

4 was my first Halloween so it has a place in my heart. Plus as a kid I totally got a stiffy for Kathleen Kinmont. Plus as an adult I totally get a stiffy for Kathleen Kinmont.

This...except I thought H4 was the better film "back in the day." Ha!

H6 is better than both of them combined!

During the month of October I put Halloween 5 on an almost constant loop, and it never gets old. NEVER. It is one of the most insanely rewatchable movies ever made.

I considered this option but decided to force everyone to choose a side. I stand by my decision. This is too important to allow neutrality. Ha.

Perhaps you're right Shape. I admire your conviction.

Return does have the great scene where Pleasence is picked up by the old religious man after being rejected (and humiliated) by a group of young people, and left eating their dust. Also, the scene were he unhesitatingly wades into the water to examine the gory interior of the overturned ambulance. And lots of other Pleasence stuff. He makes the movie watchable for me.
