Stocked up with some: Pumking Pumpkinhead Great Lakes Oktoberfest Bell's Octoberfest Considered: 3 Floyd's Zombie Dust (It's a little overrated, but still very good, if you can find it!) Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen (Also, very good!)
Still waiting on Shipyards to come to town!!! Should be any day now. But I've been killing Sam Adams Octoberfest lately. I also got a Saint Arnold's Oktoberfest and a Leinenhugel Harvest Patch Shandy sitting in the fridge I'm sure I'll get to over the weekend. It's still weird drinking these beers when it's 103 right now in Texas......
Had second thoughts, went back and bought both along with 3 Floyds Munsterfest. I had my eye out for Saint Arnold Pumpkinator, but no dice.
Want Edit: I see this is a New England brew, and I'm on the West Coast. Anyone up for a one-to-one swap, Roadsmary's Baby for Evil Dead Red?
It's a little understated for the season, but this really goes all in on "pumpkin pie in a bottle". Possibly better as a Thanksgiving beer.
Scored a 4-pack (along with a 4-pack of Nosferatu which I've not yet tried [Edit Sep 19, 2019: Check that. It's really, really good.). In terms of being a Pumpkin beer, it's roughly equal to Pumking, but it didn't taste quite as stout-y as I would've expected/hoped. Based on what I've tried thus far, I'd probably rank the Pumpkin beers as follows: 1. Elysian Night Owl. Initially, I thought it tasted very similar to Pumking, but this is a touch sweeter and has a better beer / pumpkin pie balance. I'm really curious to try The Great Pumpkin, which has a little more alcohol content, but it doesn't seem to be available near me. 2. Southern Tier Brewing Company Pumking / Warlock. I haven't back-to-backed them yet, but the flavor profile is very similar (Edit Sep 27, 2019: Did a double blind test. Not quite identical in flavor, but extremely close.). The "pumpkin pie" side of things is a shade more subtle than Night Owl. 3. Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. As I mentioned earlier, this really is pumpkin pie in a bottle, but the beer to pumpkin pie ratio skews a little too far towards pumpkin pie. 4. Shipyard Brewing Company Smashed Pumpkin. Similar to Night Owl and Pumking, but not as smooth and tastes a little more artificial. 5. Shipyard Brewing Company Pumpkinhead Ale. It's fine, but it's a distant fifth, well behind the others in pretty much every respect.
I know there are a few Czarface fans here. Did you see this shit!? View attachment 9692 Czarface IPA.....out of Lynn, Ma (north shore Boston)
Picked up a 4 pack of both Nosferatu and Warlock today. First time trying Warlock and the lady at the counter said she had it and loved it- so hope I do too. No Pumpkinhead beer in stores around me yet.
Shipyards finally came to town last week. Already downed a case. Gonna grab another case tomorrow...... Probably grab some Shiner Oktoberfests as well.....
I think Warlock is excellent and a go to for my pumpkin beer drinking. I am generally drawn to stouts and especially imperials so it hits my flavor profile well. The price is a bit high for a 4 pack, but the taste (to me) is much better than the regular pumpking. I use an app named Untappd that is fantastic for beer drinkers. It essentially lets me check in all the beers I drink. You rate them and have a fully tracked list of beers you have ever had and the location you had it. You can build a friends list and see their ratings, where they are drinking, and what they are drinking. It alerts you to new beers at local places and you can search out rare beers and see if they are around.
I think I need to find a place that will let me sample a bunch of these. Do you have a list of favorites like zbinks posted above?
Zbinks put together a good list, aside from those here are a few others that I have really liked; Imperial Pumpkin Smash by Crown Valley Brewing. It’s dark and has a smoke taste that goes well with the chocolate and pumpkin. Punkachino Coffee Pumpkin Ale by Elysian Brewing. Tastes like an awesome pumpkin coffee with a bit of nutmeg to spice it up. Good Gourd by Cigar City Brewing. Close to a vanilla and clove red pumpkin ale. If you can find any off of the list by Zbinks or the three I listed you are in for a treat. I’m sure I will try some new ones this week. I will post if I find any new lovelies!
I don't think I've ever had pumpkin coffee. Doesn't seem like the best combination. But I don't drink a lot of coffee. I do have a new one from Zbinks list. I was going to post about it in my new topic that I should start this weekend. I didn't start it when the site was down. And I've been holding off to see if everything is settled. I did just see this. Crystal Head Vodka from Ray, the best Ghostbuster. It will be on my list for next year though.
