In case you missed it, on May 3rd, Paramount is releasing The Man Who Could Cheat Death and The Skull on blu-ray. The former is a decent Hammer flick and while I haven't seen The Skull, it features both Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Needless to say, I will be preordering this.

It was mentioned in this thread, but does deserve a thread of its own.

Paramount aren't actually releasing it though. It's coming out through Legend who've licensed these from Paramount...also having released the previous DVD's of these.

My apologies, I searched the forums for this title, but neglected to look for the other double features. You are correct, they are being released through Legend. I was going by the Paramount logo on the spine. Regardless, I am very excited about this release.

That's a pretty good price for a double feature. I'll certainly pick this up as long as the transfers are good.

Both these titles have been on my wish list for quite a while. A Blu-ray double feature makes it worth the wait!

Both good films.THE SKULL is often sited as one of Amicus's best non anthology films.I have the standard Legend DVD,looked quite nice.I'm sure the Blu will look even better.

Very cool that this is coming out. I see they are also doing a double pack blu of Student Bodies and Jeckyll and Hyde Together Again on the same day.

The downside is that The Skull is actually quite boring and silly (they stick a camera into a Skull and film it "attacking" people in first-person!) Still, it has Lee and Cushing.

The upside is The Man Who Could Cheat Death is decent Dorian Grey movie.

I shouldn't complain, but I am a little disappointed with The Man Who Could Cheat Death. I received it today and was excited to see my second Hammer film on blu-ray (Vampire Circus being the first). The colors are gorgeous but white and black specs are constant and distracting. Close-ups are beautiful but rare in this film. In many instances there will be chairs or paintings which are sharp, while the actors are soft and out of focus. All in all, this double pack was $12. This isn't one of Hammer's best films, in fact there are probably 70-80 titles which deserve a blu-ray release before it. This is probably the best that this film will ever look. I recommend it for Hammer/Amicus enthusiasts only.

"The Skull"/"The man who could cheat death"

I have the dvd versions of these two movies from Legend Films. I read the dvdbeaver review hoping for a comparison of the dvd, but there was none. Can anyone comment if the Blu-ray release in this dobble pack is a significant improvement from the dvds? Not sure if its worth the upgrade. Unfourtenately I bought the single dvds before this blu-ray was released.
