Thank God for companies like Synapse and Blue Underground. They're to blu-ray horror what Anchor Bay was to early DVD horror.
Already being discussed here.
These are long overdue on Blu,I look forward to the releases, especially RIPPER,one of Hammer's most underrated films in my opinion.
Most looking forward to Hands of the Ripper. I ordered the R2 release of Twins of Evil literally THE DAY BEFORE Synapse announced their Hammer acquisitions. I wanted to bang my head against the wall over that one. Countess Dracula is already available with a great transfer from MGM, and since it was paired with The Vampire Lovers I couldn't get rid of my old disc.
Not really a big fan of the cover art.
The cover art for the blu-rays are posters. They are not original art.
I know I was disparaging of the Vampire Circus artwork (which was a similar style and also the poster) but I love all three of these.
This should mean that they're right around the corner, because when they originally posted Exterminator/Maniac Cop/Frankenhooker they turned out to be mere months away. Twins of Evil was given as Nov/Dec in June so Dec may even still hold true.
I'm not really worried but it'll be interesting how the transfers are on these three. Vampire Circus was both their first HD release and a movie they had limited resources for transferring (I don't think Don supervised the telecine or will for Hammer). That it was on the dark side is less than ideal but acceptable. With many more HD releases under Don's belt I'm much more confident that these releases will be the best we could ever hope to get.
Beautiful artwork! Hands of the Ripper is the only one I haven't seen, so that's a sure buy for me. I remember liking Countess Dracula, but it's close to two decades since I saw it. I saw Twins of Evil around the same time, and I remember thinking Peter Cushing's role was overwrought.
