Did we not have a discussion thread for Happy Death Day? I couldn't find one. Madness! Anyway, there will be test screenings in Burbank on Wednesday for the sequel, titled Happy Death Day 2U. So the movie is done. I would expect a trailer attached to Halloween.
I thought there was already an existing thread on here also. I had heard about the sequel months ago somewhere online at least...and thought it was here. I also really enjoyed the first film, and the sequel should turn out to be interesting.
I thought I posted about wanting to see the movie as well in a topic here. I can't find it though. But the movie is on demand and I'm going to watch the original soon for the October month if not earlier.
I watched the original. It was pretty good. I'll post a short review in the October viewing topic when it goes up. I started my Halloween horror movie watching a bit early.
I'm surprised this sequel happened so quick without much talk or buzz around it either. I loved Happy Death Day and hope this sequel is just as good. Not sure what direction they'll take with a sequel to a Goundhog Day type movie though.
I posted a short review in the October watching topic. http://horrordvds.com/community/thr...watching-thread-2018.48671/page-4#post-854931
New trailer: ...and since the first trailer was never posted here (I imagine most of us saw it before Halloween), here's that too:
This might be the most optimistic chat board on the internet lol. I couldn't stand the first one. My quick review: http://splattercritic.com/2017/10/happy-death-day/ A college student dies over and again on her birthday while trying to figure out why. There’s no way this can’t be compared to the vastly superior Groundhog Day, but even if this were an original idea it still wouldn’t be very good. The biggest blunder is the attempt at comedy when the lead actress simply isn’t funny. Almost okay, but the outcome is a travesty. That's just me, apparently. I'll still see the sequel, because that's what I do, but I'm hoping this time the lead doesn't blow any farts.
The lead actress is great. I found her very funny. The comedy is one of the best aspects of the film. And that fart scene had me in stitches
Now in theaters! Did anyone see it this weekend? It's pretty messy but it's not boring! I was somewhat disappointed that the trailer sells the movie as "the killer is coming after all of us now" when that's not what the movie is at all. It's really about what caused the time loop, which is revealed at the beginning of the movie. There is still a slasher movie subplot, including a whodunit complete with a ridiculously campy killer reveal, but it's relegated so far to the backburner that you forget there's even a killer and stop paying attention to who it might be. It's basically a footnote. The movie is fun, and as I said it's certainly not boring, but I also don't know that I needed it, and I'm not sure if I care for the explanation given here. I didn't re-watch the first movie to prepare (I remembered it well enough, and that will certainly come in handy here), but I would be curious to re-watch both movies together and see how they play once this hits blu-ray. They're both very different movies, even though they're so heavily tied together. Also, don't leave once the credits start. There's a mid-credits sequence, and it's a pretty big one.
I think I'll check out a late night showing of this within the next few days. I appreciate the heads up on the credit scene!!!
This movie fell flat, everything the original had, this didn't. It has a mixture of comedy and sci-fi, the comedy was alright but the slashing was nill.
Loved it. Sucker for Spoiler alternate reality stuff. This looks like it might make half of what the first one did - maybe $60 million worldwide if they are lucky. On a $9 million budget (plus marketing costs), that isn't terrible. The writer/director might get his wish to make a third. Not sure how I feel about that. Catching lightning in a bottle three times won't be easy. And wow does Jessica Rothe look smoking in a pair of jeans. Not too bad in a bikini either.
