Another old VS new, this time a Slasher battle. William Lustig's Maniac VS Alexandre Ajas Haute Tension. Pick your Winner.
Haute Tension for me thanks. No matter how many times people tell me Maniac is a classic, it still comes across as silly to me. I like it mind you, but not for the reasons I think I am supposed to.
High Tension, I have no idea why people like Maniac so much. I found it boring and rather uneventful. The ending just didn't sit right with me, either. When that stuff is done in a flick like Don't Go in the House, it's one thing because it doesn't have much of a rep. But, a widely spouted slash classic like Maniac? Come on!
MANIAC without a doubt. I truly enjoyed HT, but MANIAC's gritty, early 80s vibe makes me so giddy and happy! What was the motivation behind pitting these two films, by the way? I'm curious.
I guess Maniac is the film I most think of when I think of Haute Tension. Aja also said it was one of the influences when he directed the film. The washroom scene is obviously a homage.
Maniac is the greatest slasher film ever made. Haute Tension's retarded and unneeded twist ending almost ruined the entire movie for me.
Maniac. Seriously overrated but stylistically it worked. Haute Tension had shit for style, shit for plot, shit for effect. It was shit.
Oh come on. Slashers came a long way. Haute Tension is proof of that. No contest. I grew up in the 80's also, but HT beats most of what came out that era. Now I want to watch it again.
