Normally, I don't post a lot of stuff about petitions, because nine times out of ten, they're a waste of time. However, I came across one today that just may work.

As most of you know, MGM was recently bought out by Sony, and many horror DVD fans are worried that Sony will give MGM's extensive catalog poor treatment when it comes time for them to release films from it on DVD. One line in particular that may be in trouble is MGM's Midnite Movies line. A batch slated for release in March has been bumped to an undetermined release date later this year. No doubt, this has been caused by the disruption of the Sony/MGM buyout.

    http://www.petitiononline.com/mid2005/petition.html

I want the continued support of MGM's horror/sci-fi catalog in this series, as well as regular releases. If you've enjoyed MGM's Midnite Movies line, please take the time to sign this petition. Even if you've never picked up one of the Midnite Movies and are just a regular horror/sci-fi DVD fan, show your support of further releases by signing.

Columbia listened to fan feedback in regard to Happy Birthday to Me's DVD artwork...it was too late to change the cover, but they did include an insert with the original artwork...Chances are, with enough signatures, they'll see that the Midnite Movies line is profitable and popular among genre fans.

Anyway, figured I'd pass this link along. Thanks in advance to those who sign it. :)

I signed also... it would be a shame for Sony to drop the MM line.

    Thanks guys. :)

By the way, if anyone here posts at other places like Fangoria.com, etc. feel free to post the link to the petition. The more the merrier.

Not a big fan of this line, I had Killer Klowns and the Motel Hell/Deranged, but ultimately sold them. I still signed though, of course. It would be a damn shame for Sony to fuck our shit up, but that's what they do.

Now that I read that list, I wanna retract my signature, jk! I really don't care for the one on there that I've seen, but that's not surprising given the nature of these movies. They just don't appeal to me. I just want confirmation that From Beyond is still on it's way.

    :)

Well, the list isn't totally complete (lacks From Beyond, for one thing). George at DVDDrive-In just put this up to show people a lot of the titles that were MGM's and are now Sony's, that would likely go into the Midnite Movies collection if released. Some of the titles (The Burning, From Beyond), if released, would probably be stand-alone horror titles, while others would definitely be under the Midnite Movies banner.

The list is just to give people an idea of what MGM still had, but to my knowledge, isn't everything. MGM's library was vast.

The main films that I still want from MGM are The Burning, Highway to Hell, The Town that Dreaded Sundown, Scarecrows, The Curse, and The Curse II. There are still several films I want to a lesser extent though, and most of those would fall into the Midnite Movies category. Anyway, I signed, #222.

Signed it. I have about 75% of the double features that they've put out to date (including the set released in March) and will continue to support them if they continue to produce them at the quality and price level they have been in the past.

Signed. It would be a shame if Sony discontinued the MM line.
