Break out your cap and gown -- Herb Freed's GRADUATION DAY (1981) is coming to Blu, courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome! When a high school track starlet croaks mid-dash, the rest of her squad gets slaughtered by a sweatsuit-clad slasher in appropriately track 'n' field-centric ways. Yup, you can expect deaths by disguise-o-javelin, inappropriate pole-vault, use of a fencing foil without proper protective gear and plenty more. A solidly enjoyable, surprising teenkill pic from the early '80s, GRADUATION DAY is also filled with disco boogie and break dancing, so there's that, too. The prior Troma DVD was from an aged tape master, but Vinegar Syndrome have gone back to the original camera negative, giving the film a 4K remaster. Extras include interviews with producer, David Baughn, editor Martin Sadoff and actress Patch Mackenzie. "The Class of '81 is running out of time..."

GD has always been one of my favorite "lesser slashers". I was so happy to hear this was getting such a nice release after years of watching Troma's sub par DVD (now if someone could scoop up The Children from them and give it a worthy release).

Bruce were you at the Exhumed show in 2006 when they played this with Sleepaway Camp for me as a wedding present?

Another major score! Nice - I remember the week this came out (yes, it's been over 10 years ago...;) )
Immediately played with Final Exam as the co-feature. I didn't see this until Showtime presented it a year later. Love that ending. I remember everyone in one of my classes thinking it's a movie where over 200 teens get killed. ha!

No, but I wish I was! I haven't seen either on 35mm -- hopefully they'll pop back up during one of the marathons.

Started watching this on Youtube and couldn't really get into it. I feel like it should have been called Athletics Day or something.

I'm loving the classic one sheet art on the cover (I can forgive the very slight scratchy-scratchy enhancement as it's not intrusive at all - still can't wait for that trend to die). Will purchase for sure!

I seem to recall this sucking pretty hard. I might check out the new transfer but I certainly won't be paying for it.

I remember seeing this one on tv, 20 years ago, when I REALLY was a diehard slasher fan, but it was a huge disappointment. But I gave it another try a few years back, and it actually was a bit better that time. Might be because my expectations was VERY low ;)
If I find it at a good price, I might add it to my collection.

Some bad acting on this one, Christopher George's character really got on my nerves.. and its very dated looking even in the early 80's it looked bad..

I honestly don't see how Graduation Day is any worse than most slashers that came out in the early '80s. Of course it looks dated, they all look dated. They all have cheesy disco music in them, '80s styles, etc.

In fact, I always thought this was one of the better slasher efforts.
