Apparently Quentin Tarantino really enjoyed it! (Courtesy of Dreadcentral)

I showed it to Quentin Tarantino,” Guadagnino revealed to the Italian publication La Repubblica. “We’ve been friends since our jury duty at the Venice Film Festival. I was nervous but eager to hear his advice. We saw it at his place and his reaction warmed me. He was enthusiastic about it, in the end, he was crying and hugged me.

He then adds: “Because it’s a horror movie but also a melodrama, my goal was to make you look at the horror without being able to take [your eyes off the screen] because you’re captivated by the characters. Amazon is very happy.”

    "...but also a melodrama"

Melodrama's a good thing when it comes to Luca Guadagnino though as that's something he excels at in his films, and being attached to the characters makes the horror all that more impactful and unsettling.

Oh please!!!! Melodrama is what we see on The Walking Dead, The Mist, Seventh Heaven, Touched by an Angel...all those horror shows. And NO, you don't
need melodrama to make HORROR impactful and unsettling.

Television melodrama is a whole other bag.

It's what sells and I have little doubt they'll use the same tropes here. Time will tell, but I have almost no hope.

The remake length has been confirmed (did not know that was a thing!), It's 152 mins!!!! Ouch! Was undecided before, this is swaying me to the no thank you side!

Not a good move if they're trying to attract the milennial (aka no-attention-span) generation. Granted, the original would have probably bored the shit out of them too. After all, Vin Diesel wasn't in it.

152 minutes seems like a bit much. Occasionally you will get a movie that really needs and uses that amount of time wisely, but more times than not, it ends up overstaying its welcome with that kind of run time.

The long runtime can definitely make or break this. It could feel like an epic or it could bore you to tears lol.

Yes it really just makes it even more difficult to pull this off successfully, but it's still possible. Maybe we'll have to make a "fan edit" 90 min version. :)

The guy's previous movie (Call me by your name) looked absolutely stunning but at 132 mins would have benefited from being trimmed by at least 15-20 mins. I guess it's difficult as a director to cut great looking footage even if the pace of the movie would be improved.

Still think it looks promising. Then again if they can't make a half decent trailer from a 152 minute horror movie then they've been wasting their time for the last year or two.

Blind buy for me regardless just 'cause of what it is.

It still has my interest. The new trailer looks good and I'm liking that they're bringing all three mothers into the mix (at least by reference). I hope it just doesn't wallow around too much like a lot of long movies often end up doing.

None of those reviews make me want to rush out and see it. I'll view it at some point as curiosity will get the better of me!

I had zero interest until the preview screenings where people compared it to Mother. Now I'm intrigued. If it plays close I may go on $5 Tuesday.

After reading those reviews, I’m just worried that it might end up being far too artsy-fartsy for my taste.

But it’s better to go in with lower expectations ;)

God, I hope it's nothing like Mother. That movie was a massive waste of time unless you're pretty well versed in the Bible and its stories.

Mother was the best film that I watched last year. I think that we need more (genuine) art in bigger films. After sitting through hollow pandering shit like Terrifier, Dude Bro Party Massacre III and Hatchet 4, I'm dying for something about more than nothing.
