I sat here for a few minutes and reflected on the horror films of the past five years and thought about one that really stood out for me. Great story and characters. Beautiful cinematography and music. Outstanding performances. A film that made me feel so many emotions while watching it....and well after the end credits had stopped rolling. A horror film that understood that the greatest horror in our lives comes not from a guy with a chainsaw, but from living with personal loss and regret over past decisions. I don't know how I could NOT pick A Tale of Two Sisters.
Would have liked to see Dagon on the list, but I'd still vote for A Tale of Two Sisters anyway. Two Sisters is not just a great HORROR film, it's a great FILM.
Actually i did really enjoy the first half of Jeepers Creepers untill we got to see the guy, but overall would you really place it ahead of the other 19 on the list?
Without a doubt GINGER SNAPS. The script is a fantastic reworking of werewolf cliches into a statement on femininity and puberty, and the two girls give that script heart. The sequels may have gotten progressively worse, but there is very little that touches the brilliance of this werewolf original.
I may be the only one,but I really liked Cabin Fever. Not sure if it's my favorite but definetly close to it.There is a couple more on that list I would like to see before I vote.
A Tale of 2 Sisters. Man is it a beautiful film. I'd choose Kairo then, and a close 3rd for Shaun of the Dead.
I have yet to see a few of these, mainly the "J-Horror" (asian altogether for that matter). I voted for The Devil's Backbone (I seem to be the first). I'd put Shaun Of The Dead, May, Love Object, Cabin Fever , House Of 1000 Corpses, and Uzumaki (Spiral) as runner-ups (probably in that order or close to. I'm sure there are many others also that I can't really think of right now, but that's not important because overall, The Devil's Backbone is my favorite movie thus far in the new millennium. I can't wait to see Guillermo Del Toro's next movie (Pan's Labyrinth)! Is he going to do Hellboy 2 (is this going to be done at all, I hope not) before At The Mountains Of Madness?
