I voted for Dog Soldiers but I think 28 Days Later is equally good. I still haven't seen Shaun of the Dead (for shame) but I believe it's been the Brits who've been saving the horror genre in recent years.

I had to choose "Other" since...well the films of this decade have done nothing for me. I'm not saying they're bad films but not the type of horror films that made an impact on me (I'm being too kind here, too).
Of the new releases I really liked, WRONG TURN was the one that actually caught me off guard, freaked me out some and put me on the edge of my seat. I'll choose WRONG TURN as the closest to being the best of this decade.

Suprising that after all the recent quality horror films that have come out of Asia latley only one is in the top ten. Although i would think Audition (1999) might have been there if it qualified.

Well, I think part of it is that we forget that not everyone voting is region-free and has seen all the titles listed above, not to mention some of the asian titles that weren't listed.

The biggest surprise to me was that The Others didn't get a single vote yet.

I'm even more surprised about The Eye not getting a vote. I love that film Or May only getting one vote. I guess like The Others although it may be a good film it's not necessary anyone’s favorite.

I should have put WRONG TURN on my honorable mention list--I really liked it too.

In general, the Asian films don't do it for me, but THE EYE is a major exception.

I think the one thing going against The Others is the "I figured out the twist ending" defense. There seems to be this school of thought that a movie is a contest...if you figure out the ending, you win and the movie is no good. And if the ending comes as a surprise, then it must be good. Blame The Sixth Sense, I guess.

The ending of The Others is pretty well telegraphed, but that shouldn't distract people from just enjoying the ride. I've mentioned it before, but I think it's the closest thing we've had to a Hammer film in the last 30 years. Maybe not THE best of the decade, but it's up there. I'd definitely rank it above several movies that are beating it in this poll, like Haute Tension, House of 1K Corpses, and especially the putrid Dawn of the Dead remake (so far, my WORST horror film of the decade)

I gotta go with May. I probably should have voted for Shaun of the Dead because it's my favorite from that list, but I don't consider it a horror movie (although it does have some rather creepy scenes).

I can't get enough of May. That films just gets better and better each time i watch it. I wouldn't be suprised if we had a poll at the end of the decade and this film ranked allot higher.

This has been a great poll, Ash. Lots of interesting feedback, and its quite surprising to see that SHAUN OF THE DEAD is really blowing away the competition. I never would have guessed, but it is interesting all the same. I thought the new DAWN would have had just as many votes, if not more, than SHAUN. I don't think it is really surprising that THE OTHERS is being forgotten, since it was pretty much a film that was just coattailing the success of THE SIXTH SENSE and Kidman's breakup. Anyway, keep the good feedback coming, guys and gals!

I think polls of this nature tend to favor the most recent films just because they're fresher in people's minds, so that probably has a lot to do with SHAUN's standing.

That might have something to do with it. Just like the Oscars voters, people have short memories, but if you look at the other top placings
    2 Ginger Snaps 8 (2000)
    3 Haute Tension 7(2003)
    4 Dog Soilders 7(2002)
    5 Frailty 5(2001)
    6.Tale of Two Sisters 5 (2003)
    7.28 Days Later... 5 (2002)

They have all been there for around for a while.

I will never understand the appeal of Shaun of the Dead and it is ludicrous to be included in this poll...the film is a comedy. Plain and simple. It's not a horror film.

I vote for Dario Argento's Sleepless.

Ginger Snaps, however I have to say the sequel and prequel were unnecessary

I can agree that it is barely (if at all) a horror film. it's really a comedy with zombies. but it's getting votes because it's in the poll and it's a great movie.
