Near Dark for me.
Near Dark. I keep imagining a match up between the Kiefer Sutherland character and Lance Henriksen's "Jesse"; or Jamie Gertz against Diamondback; the two Corey's against Severn. No -- the two Corey's against Homer, gotta be fair! For me, I've come to like Lost Boys a bit more over the years, but Near Dark has always been a favorite. Much better script (Eric Red/Katheryn Bigelow) than Lost Boys, visually superior, and a much better execution (no pun intended). It's all a matter of opinion, though.
Near Dark. Both great movies - but Lost Boys just doesn't have the same impact that it did when I was 14.
Lost Boys! Probably for the nostalgia, I don't know, but I still love that movie everytime I see it. Near Dark is awesome too, but I only found out about it a few years ago, so it doesn't have all nostalgia that The Lost Boys holds.
NEAR DARK , like them both but DARK wins out
NEAR DARK is the stronger horror film, but BOYS is good fun.NEAR DARK gets my vote, though I like both.
Yep! TLB felt like a vampire-lite film for the teenybopper crowd.
Near Dark for me all the way. I love the whole conflict of being a vampire, but also being a vampire that is so attracted to a human to the point that you would (selfishly?) bring them into your very dangerous world, just to be with them.
In addition, Near Dark also has, easily, one of the best on-screen kisses, ever.
Near Dark. I like a horror comedy as much as the next person, but Lost Boys had so much going for it until it became The Two-Corey's Wannabe-Goonies Adventure Show. I've seen things with the Olsen Twins in them that were scarier than this movie's childish 3rd tri-section.
I really like The Lost Boys, but Near Dark is a flat out great movie.
I'm gonna have to go for The Lost Boys. Sure it had that '80s teeny bopper-ness to it, but it's a very well-directed film. It has great cinematography.
Love them both but NEAR DARK takes it.
The Lost Boys by a very slim margin.
I am genuinely shocked that THE LOST BOYS has gotten 39 votes!!! Seriously??? Death-by-stereo, antlers made of wood, the fucking Coreys and their golly-gee-whiz comedic acting...I was not impressed at the age of 15 and I am not impressed now. I don't consider it horror and I barely consider it a vampire movie. Blech!
(Okay, I'm done, hee-hee)
I voted for The Lost Boys. Classic fun movie. I understand a lot of people (especially on a horror board) might prefer Near Dark 'cuz it's darker, grittier, and gorier, but the last time I watched it (it's been several years, in fairness) it just didn't hold up. I kept thinking how stupid the vampires were, how they supposedly survived since the Civil War and then get all wiped out. Like I said, it's been years, so I don't recall specifics, but I wasn't buying it.
maybe thsi deserves a thread of it's own but my choice "Near Dark" is coming to bluray in england in august it seems
Lost Boys is the best vampire movie ever in my opinion. Near Dark feels like a 1984 Terminator rip-off with its feel and some few actors.
Lost Boys had boardwalk Cali! Awesome feel including peter pan-ish fairy tale story, Jim Morrison of the doors spirit, 80's hair band rock. Awesome story,,, it has it all for me.
(bad singing) Cry... little sister! hahaha
I too am truly amazed at all the love for The Lost Boys. I saw this in the theater on opening weekend back in '87 and thought it was absolutely terrible. And my opinion definitely didn't change when I recently caught part of it on cable. Does anyone else see this as the precursor to Twilight?
