Ever been watching a movie and realize scenes from it must have been filmed just down the street? Where were you living at the time, what was the scene and the movie? I grew up in Maryland and remembering driving past the Burkittsville cemetery from the beginning of the Blair Witch all the time. Later I moved outside of El Paso, Tx where Manos the Hands of Fate was filmed. I dont know how many times I drove over that pass where the family stops and the little girl gets in the front seat with her parents.
Another one not quite horror, but certainly a cult movie, Bad Boy Bubby was filmed here in Adelaide, South Australia. Or to be more precise, down near Semaphore. Recently I watched Coffin Rock and a few scenes were also shot here in Adelaide, I recognized the main streets in Town and our crap looking buses
Hellraiser III was filmed in my home town. Several people I know had cameos. I actually signed up to be an extra and the production assistant called me, but I couldn't attend because I had school exams and work and the shoot they wanted me for was an all nighter from dusk til dawn the next day. Oh, well...
Not exactly in my town, but Laid To Rest was filmed in Annapolis, which is pretty damn close to me. Then there's those Fear of Clowns movies that were filmed in Glen Burnie and the surrounding areas. The director, Kevin Kangas, has a comic book shop right down the street from me. Not horror, but a few scenes in the Replacements were filmed at my High School and Ravens stadium. Also there's an exterior shot in John Water's Polyester that is within walking distance of me.
The original My Bloody Valentine was filmed in a town over from the one I grew up in... about 10 minutes down the highway.
What a claim to fame  While horror flicks like Blair Witch, Chainsaw Sally and a number of others were filmed in my STATE, some closer than other, the closest things that have ever been shot in my actual area (outside of the Homicide TV series which was shooting around here all the time; when I used to cut lawns with my uncle we did a yard at the last minute because they were coming to shoot in their yard ) were Enemy of the State and Live Free or Die Hard. Both of these were shot withing 5-10 minutes of my house and are both big talking points for people around these parts. If only I had a dollar for every time someone said "dude, Enemy of the State was shot there!" while driving by the industrial park, I'd be typing this message from my personal island in the Bahamas
I used to live in Poughkeepsie NY, although I don't know if The Poughkeepsie Tapes was actually filmed there... Here in San Diego, the one that comes to mind is Phantasm. The scenes in the town, where Mike is wandering the streets when he sees the Tall Man in front of Reggie's Ice Cream was filmed in Julian, a small village just northeast of San Diego
Pittsburgh..... lots. Night of the Living Dead Dawn of the Dead Day of the Dead Martin Effects Knightriders Creepshow The Majorettes Flesheater Monkey Shines The Dark Half Night of the Living Dead 1990 Two Evil Eyes Bloodsucking Pharaohs from Pittsburgh Innocent Blood Silence of the Lambs August Underground My Bloody Valentine 3D Sorority Row Land of the Dead?
Mr. Deeds (oh yes, it's horror). Zombie's Halloween 2 had scenes shot here. The original I Spit On Your Grave was filmed two towns over.
Frankenhooker was filmed near where I used to live in NJ. Otherwise here in Vegas: Nutbag Las Vegas Bloodbath R.S.V.P. Las Vegas Serial Killer (man, does this movie suck) Zzyzx Leprechaun 3 That's all I could remember, I'm sure I'm missing a few though.
Although the bulk of it was filmed down in Massachusetts, a good chunk of the second unit photography for Martin Scorcese's SHUTTER ISLAND was filmed on Mount Desert Island, Maine, where I grew up. Bits of PET SEMATARY were also shot there.
Part of Jamie Lee Curtis's VIRUS was shot nearby as were parts of Umberto Lenzi's HITCHER IN THE DARK and George Eastman's METAMORPHOSIS.The old telefilm THE DEATH OF OCEAN VIEW PARK was also shot nearby. Not really horror but parts of THE FINAL COUNTDOWN and THE LAST DETAIL were also shot around here.
IMDb lists 148 Horror movies filmed in Louisiana, but none shot in my town. The Collector (2009) was filmed 89 miles from my town, in Mansfield. The closest that I know of. Seems like most were filmed in Shreveport and/or New Orleans though.
I live in Mt. Desert, Maine. Jeremy already mentioned Pet Sematary & Shutter Island, the only other horror movie I can think of filmed here is Storm of the Century, which was filmed in Southwest Harbor. It's funny because we actually had a storm of the century (ice storm) while they were shooting, ruining their instant mashed potato flake snow set. When it thawed, the sidewalks were a mess!! That's all I've got for my home area...unless The Cider House Rules counts as horror?? Some sequences in Creepshow 2 & The Langoliers were shot in nearby Bangor.
Two very important ones filmed nearby - Last House on the Left was filmed in Wesport and Redding, CT. Redding is the town next to where I currently reside, and Wesport right down the road from there, but even closer to where I grew up. I Spit on Your Grave was filmed in Kent which is very close to me as well and is where I go hiking quite a bit (Macedonia). I drive thru the downtown all the time which is shown in the very beginnig of the film - you can see a fountain in the middle of the road which is at a 4-way stop. Another cool old school double feature which were both filmed in Stamford, CT, next town south down the road from where I grew up, is Curse of the Living Corpse and Horror of Party Beach. House of Dark Shadows was filmed in Norwalk, CT which is the next town up the road North from where I grew up, at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion. We went on class trip there in like 4th grade or something. http://lockwoodmathewsmansion.com/
