OK, last attempt at getting the classic ghost story

    KWAIDAN

C'mon folks...this was the first Asian horror film to receive worldwide critical acclaim, and really paved the way for many of the films on this list (not Godzilla, obviously). It's gorgeous to look at, almost every scene is like a fantastic painting.

OK, Kairo finally made it in so I'll agree with my old college roomate, Paff, on this one:

    Kwaidan

And speaking of seminal Asian horror, nobody's even mentioned Ugetsu. I haven't seen it in many years but I remember it being pretty damn good too. Is it even on DVD?

OK, OK, I'm an ignorant ass- Criterion just released this in November. I just put it at the top of my Netflix list.

That, and am I the only one who has seen Jigoku or am I just the only one who liked it? ;)

I do need to see some of these other early Japanese movies. Jigoku, Ugetsu, Onibaba, etc. I've really only seen Kwaidan, based on it's reputation.

I've been meaning to see that Jigoku DVD since it came out a few months ago. It's currently on route to me from Netflix. Onibaba is great too.

Memories of Murder for me today. It's not pure horror by any stretch, but neither are a lot of the nominated movies so I am going with it anyway.

I haven't seen Jigoku, but I plan on renting it when I settle back down. I liked Kwaidan well enough, but it didn't really do much for me. I may have liked it better had I seen it earlier before the stories were old hat to me.

I could see this tourney going far past 11 entries. There are just too many great candidates.

    Three... Extremes

Since Kaïro finally got in, my rotation skips right back to Suicide Circle.

Kudos for voting for Three...Extremes. I gave it a little love earlier.

As far as going more than 11, sure it could, but it starts getting watered down. Already there are two movies (Battle Royale and Ichi) on there that are arguably not horror films, and one of the leading candidates (Versus) for the last slot isn't your typical horror film either.

If it goes further, you'd start to see the Park Chan-Wook vengeance trilogy (also not horror) start to show up.

    11 is good.
