This week has been LOADED with indie horror releases. I took a chance on one called House Of Demons (you can find it at Wal-Mart for $9.96):

    HOUSE OF DEMONS.JPG

Formerly titled Trip House and starring Amber Benson from Buffy.

From the back of the DVD case:

Gwen, Matthew, Katrina and Spencer were best friends for years, until a terrible tragedy tore them apart. Ten years later, they reunite in a rented house for a destination wedding. What they don't know is that in the late '60s, the house was home to a Manson Family-like cult run by Frazer, a charismatic former scientist pushing the boundaries of human consciousness. His experiments echo through time and manifest everyone's darkest fears and memories, blurring time as Frazer's cult and the present day collide over the course of one long night, where everyone must confront their darkness or be destroyed by it.

    Special Features:
    - Meet The Cast & Crew
    - Bringing The Story To Life
    - Composers Of House Of Demons
    - Deleted Scenes
    - Director's Commentary

Rated R for violence / bloody images, drug content, langauge, and some sexuality.

Unfortunately, this one was a dud. Pretty boring and barely a horror movie aside from a few crazy visuals. Should have called it House Of Inner-Demons, as it's just four people at a cabin in the woods battling their inner demons. There is no physical or external threat. And even as a drama or character movie, it's still a bore.

The DVD includes deleted scenes and three brief featurettes which basically guilted me into wanting to like the movie more as everyone seems very enthusiastic about it.

Definitely a bummer of a blind-buy. If you want a drama/thriller about cults, the recent One Of Us is a much more satisfying movie.
