I've replaced about 50 titles so far. Overall I've bought about 110 blu-rays so nearly a 50% ratio. I didn't originally think I would replace that many but blu-ray titles are mostly available for $12.00 or less if you are patient so the price isn't bad, especially when a trip to the theater generally sets me back about $35.00.

Not too many so far. Given the millions of titles on my wish-list, it is really hard to justify upgrading unless I really love the movie.

The ones I did so far:
    Heathers
    A Nightmare On Elm Street
(upgraded from the first DVD release)
    Stir Of Echoes
    Donnie Darko
    The Girl Next Door
    (2004)
My Bloody Valentine (upgraded from the R-rated Paramount DVD)

I've got between 200-300 blu-rays and I know at least 100 of them are replacements of films I already owned on DVD.

Bumping the 7 year old thread.

I still have some signed items (Christmas Evil DVD, Halloween II DVD, The Original Mail-Order I Drink Your Blood DVD, etc.) and a few Blu's with special content or still to make it to Blu (Last House on Dead End Street/Criterion's Carnival of Souls DVD with the director's cut).

Everything else is Blu. I have about 400, I believe.

What say you 2017 Horror digital-ers?

I've only been blu for 8 months or so, but I've bought over 50 titles. The following were upgrades:

    Wishmaster
    Tales from the Hood
    Texas Chainsaw 2
    Return of the living dead
    Shaun of the Dead
    Evil Dead
    Scream
    Office Space
    Caddyshack
    Pulp Fiction
Don't be a menace to south Central....
    Waiting
    Pineapple Express
    Superbad
    Beerfest
    Harold & Kumar

And I owned every Halloween flick on either vhs or dvd and I recently purchased the 10 disc blu collection.

Couldn't be happier about each and every upgrade either.

I've replaced just about everything so far. The only things that stand out to me as hold outs are some AB limited editions like the Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Set, Bad Taste and Opera (I'll sell that once Scorpion/Code Red gets their release out), and other random things like Terror Firmer From Dusk Till Dawn. There are also things like Darkness that will probably never make it to blu that I'll just keep. And recently I've picked up a bunch of Intervision and Massacre Video's DVD's of shot-on-video films. I also have my John Waters box set that doesn't seem like it will be upgraded any time soon.

Since this post back in 2010 I would say I've replaced well over 500 DVD's.

Jesus. 483 titles, 663 discs. I got a blu ray player in like 2008, so I've pretty much replaced everything at this point. I don't buy DVDs anymore and haven't for a while.

453 units, 638 titles, 827 discs total in my collection as of now (but those disc numbers includes the DVD discs in the Blu-ray/DVD combos as you can't factor that out in when searching 'Blu-ray' in your collection on filmaf), but I'd guess that probably half of those have been upgrades from DVD.

I didn't buy my first Blu-Ray player until the Christmas season of 2010, so this would have been a much easier question to answer at that time.

With preorders, my Blu-Ray collection currently stands at 1,943 MOVIES, 63 TV SEASONS, 1,645 SKUS.

I'd have to guess somewhere between 500 - 800 DVDs in my collection were replaced outright, since that time, with roughly 500 DVDs remaining (my DVD collection on Blu-Ray.com is incomplete).

It's hard to say, but it's around 50 upgrades. But I own more than that on Blu-ray. Just happens that most of what I buy on Blu they never had on DVD or I just didn't own it before. I have next to none "mainstream" films repurchased on Blu, except for Lord of The Rings Trilogy. I never really was a "mainstream" film buyer until Blu came out. Figure the stuff was ALWAYS on cable.

Holy shit, zbinks. I think I have 400+ total. I only purchase horror though, the rest I watch in theaters or streaming.

The weird thing is, I really didn't buy that Blu-Ray player for movies. I bought it because it for Blu-Ray Audio / SACD playback.

I recently moved, so I had to unpack and categorize all this craziness. 716 blurays. 2136 DVD s. Out of those blurays I would say at least half are upgrades. I've had my bluray player since 2008.

I swore over ten years ago that I'd never replace all of my DVD's with blu-ray's. While I now rarely blind buy or purchase inferior sequels in order to fill out a collection, I still have over 900 blu-ray's.

Now with 4K's, I fear I'll repeat the same pattern. Fortunately I only have a dozen of those.

I know the feeling. So far I've purchased 16 UHD titles and can't even watch them yet as I haven't picked up a 4K TV. My blu-ray collection is 1800 titles with a little over 2000 in the DVD collection.
