The only one I checked was shaky cam. I don't consider it "style" to shake the camera around so you can't tell what is going on.

I was gonna say asian horror, but then I think of things like kwaidan, jigoku, or the godzilla movies.
I was gonna say Troma, but I like Toxie, Tromeo & Juliet, and Cannibal: The Musical.
I was gonna say fake snuff, but...i don't think i've ever actually seen any.

I gotta agree with the Chaoster. There are good films in even the weakest genres. Really interesting poll though! I think it could stimulate some great discussion.

    This.

And Silent Films (short attention span and don't really feel like going that back in time).

And other: new era remakes (I still watch em if they appear on TV but probably zapping through channels in the middle).

I'd just watch any type of horror as long as it has very bad reviews or very good reviews or not at all.

Troma, torture and fake snuff are the ones I chose. Of course there are some good movies that fall into each of those categories...well, maybe not troma....but this is a generalization only.

Troma, Torture (e.g., guinea pig, august underground etc.), or fake snuff I don't enjoy at all. I need plot/characters, or high production, or something that's not Troma.

I'm not a huge fan of vampire movies (just been done to death) or slasher films (plots are often too ridiculous given the premise), but I make lots of exceptions in both cases.

edit: What I mean by "ridiculous plots" for slasher films is that all too often, coherence or intelligence is sacrificed for convenience and lazy storytelling

Toxic Avenger is amusing, but other Troma doesn't do much for me. Torture and Fake Snuff? No thanks.

I also selected Other, for most direct to video and shot on video shit.

I picked other, the only thing I can honestly think of is haunted house films. I find the majority of them very dull and plodding. But I'll even give one of these a chance if I get a copy for review or I hear good things.

Anything else, I'm happily open for. A good film is a good film, period. Why deprive yourself of something good because a few films in a certain area didn't turn out good? Silly, I say. Don't get me started on the votes for pre-1968 and black and white and the amazing cinema you're depriving yourself of. Don't feel like being told I'm a "snob" or "elitist" tonight... ;)

With very few exceptions torture films just don't float my boat. The snuff stuff leaves me cold and I think the shaky camera,''IT'S ALL TRUE'' cycle is getting really played out.I also find films about glittery vampires to be...wrong.

I'm not a real fan of either Slashers or Shaky Cam/Found Footage. I like a good slasher, but a bad or even mediocre slasher is just plain dull in my book. Even if I like a slasher it's probably not enough to see it more than once. With all the DVDs I own, I don't have F13 or NoES series for example.

My dislike of Shaky Cam/Found Footage is more in the execution than anything else. When they were novel it was fine, like Cannibal Holocaust or Alien Abduction, but there's been few exceptions since and those are once again not movies I'd want to revisit. My dislike of Blair Witch stems more from the acting style than the whole shaky cam style.

Troma Films, Torture Films and Fake Snuff I'm cool with. :D

I hear you! It's hardly effective for something like Cloverfield (such a fierce monster deserved a real movie). Can't they just fake it with steady cam?

Fake snuff is about the only thing I truly can't stand. It can work as a plot element in a film, but as its own entity it just seems rather pointless and unimaginative.

    "Rape Revenge"

I do not see the appeal and really do not want to. I'd rather spend my time watching something else.

I am not a fan of rape revenge films, torture films, cannibal films, shaky cam, and pretty much everything from Troma. I will gladly take older horror films any day over these categories.
