I'd never though I'd see the day someone confessed not liking hellraiser...I could have tried to understand with Hellbound...but-but Hellraiser!! It's madness, madness I say!!

You're missing out on a lot of great movies by not giving anything pre-NOTLD a shot. It's never a good thing to close one's mind that way. You can't just lump together and throw away decades upon decades of movie history like that. They're not all the same.

Just about "Anything Pre Night of the living dead", of course theres Psycho, the original Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, Carnival Of Souls... but mostly my sweet spot is horror released after NOTLD and before ED2.

and Troma, but thats not really horror. :D

    (oops, accidentally pushed Exploitation films)

I've never really been able to get into Cannibal, Torture, and Rape/Revenge films. They aren't fun to watch, they're just distrubing, nasty and unenjoyable. Some can be good, but I never watch them... I mean (for example), Last House on the Left is a fantastic film, but I can't watch it. It's so difficult to watch.

Fake snuff... really? I've always passed on those...

    I choose silent films.
It's not just the lack of sound, but often the contrast of the old film stock is so poor that you can barely tell what is going on. That is too big of a distraction for me.
I wish there were a distinction between the classic & new age vampire films. I just can't get into any post-Hammer vampire productions.
For most of the others that I was unsure about (Troma films, Torture Films, Fake Snuff & Cannibal Films), I could either think of at least 1 film in each sub-genre that I enjoyed or I just wasn't familiar enough with the sub-genre to make a decision.

i have no interest in Torture Films, Fake Snuff, Troma Films and Shaky Cam/Found Footage. I have yet to try Asian Horror and Giallo. Exploitation, Slashers and Revenge films are my cup-of-tea.

well, i will admit that Barker's films and fiction have a definite and distinctive flavor to them. His stuff is very...visceral. I'd say his films, and Hellraiser in particular, are his most accessible creations. Honestly, I think it might be a gay thing. I get the same kind of different vibe from other gay authors like Brett Easton Ellis, and Chuck Palahniuk. Kind of like how novels written by women sometimes have a different feel from those written by men.

Torture Films and Fake Snuff. But it isn't because I can't stand watching this, since I like Snuff who is the fakest thing imaginable, but the real film is fun and it was made by Michael Findlay.

Most of them are badly made and just waste of my time. When I watch a film I want to see something entertaining, not a bad excuse to show special effects or worst crappy CGI.

I wouldnt say Brett Easton Ellis and Palahniuk are "gay authors". I would say the only thing they and Barker have in common at all are a bias in the reader.

Until just this moment it never occurred to me that Clive Barker was gay

Voted torture, but not into fake snuff or rape/revenge either. The cannibal films bore me also.

    I chose a few actually:

Rape Revenge - Never crazy about seeing rape on film, and the outcome is nearly always the same. Don't really find this enjoyable.

Torture Films - Never could get into these because I never deemed them either scary or interesting. It's just gore and uncomfortableness for the sake of it.

Fake Snuff - Same as torture films. Really no point to them.

Cannibal Films - I've seen a bunch, but never got into them.

Shaky Cam - I understand the appeal of this type of film, but it usually amount to lazy film making with a gimmick.
