The only way I'd consider seeing this is if it focuses squarely on the revenge aspect while sparing us the gratuitous rape and sexual degradation scenes that are intrinsic to this series. Probably a slim chance of that, the filmmakers know their demographic. Good news for those that enjoy the series and more power to them, but the original and the remake were more than enough for me.

Amen. I respect that first one has it's place in history but I find them unpleasant to watch. Either people are turned on by it, which makes me uncomfortable or are revolted, which makes for a tough viewing experience. I think i saw the first one once. That was enough.

I gave up finding films to be offensive long ago. Perhaps I'm simply jaded now due to the many thousands of films I've seen. I've watched the original and remake once each and I'm sure I'll end up watching this sequel. For me the most disturbing images I've viewed in film were the actual animal killings that some of the Italian directors shot back in the late 70's-early 80's cannibal films.

    I've only seen 1-36.

I'm not offended but watching Camille Keaton be sexually assaulted for 30 minutes is not pleasant.

I must agree about the animal killings, a wretched idea, heartbreaking to watch.

My friend went to see the remake premiere at the Fantasia Festival a few years back, he's a hardened and jaded horror enthusiast since childhood. The actress who portrayed the victim/protagonist was there for part of a Q&A, during which a rather portly and bespectacled audience member got up and started raving about how much he enjoyed the rape scene and how much it meant to him to have seen such a realistic portrayal of rape, thanking the actress repeatedly.
It was creepy enough that my friend noticed a level of discomfort in the female lead and called to tell me about it upon leaving the theater stating it disturbed the hell out of him.
I cannot fathom someone 'enjoying' the torment that a person suffers during a sexual assault or rape, fictional or not. Upon seeing the remake, which was loaned to me by the same friend, I fast forwarded through starting at the 'teeth' comments prior to the rape and went straight to the revenge. The only film of this type I ever enjoyed was 'Hitch-Hike' with David Hess and in that one the sexual violence is pretty much incidental to a much more complex plot development and much less protracted.

I wouldn't say I was personally offended by it, but the last sequel they did was a real nasty piece of work. The rape went on until around the one-hour mark. The revenge was almost an after-thought. I don't know if I'd even call it a rape-revenge film, it was just a rape film.

Makes you wonder really the difference between these films now and the infamous porno roughies of the seventies like 'Forced Entry'? Is it really a 'horror film' or an evolution of that genre?

I feel like, at times, some of these films cater to a very specific individual's sexual taste rather than trying to horrify or scare (or even tell a story). If I feel like the filmmaker is trying to titillate... It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's not what I like about these films.

The point of the SPIT films is to see someone get revenge for a reprehensible act they survived. The more graphic and uncomfortable the act, the more gratifying the revenge. I can't speak for everyone, but the films aren't jerkoff material. They aren't meant to be sexy or "enjoyable".

I find it strange when horror fans will act like they can't understand the draw of these films. And some like to insinuate that anyone watching these films are sexual predator wannbees. Personally, I find the idea of a human having there lips sewn to other persons' a$$hole to be so reprehensible I wouldn't dare give a film featuring that act the time of day. But I don't post in HUMAN CENTIPEDE threads questioning the tastes of that film's fans. Rape is horrible, but so is just about everything that happens in horror films.

My point is that I think that sometimes filmmakers purposely walk a fine line between titilation and trying to upset the viewer with rape/revenge films. Irreversible had a long rape scene but it was clear filmmaker just wanted to horrify the audience. ISOYG exploits rape and walks that line uncomfortably (for me). I'm not questioning fans taste, I'm questioning filmmaker's intent. And I did watch the film knowing the plot, I'm not condemning viewers (well, maybe certain viewers).

Apples and oranges with the Human Centipede comparison. One is a crime that happens constantly the other never happens.

Based on the wretched reviews I skipped ISYG II, but the remake I thought was actually very well done. In the original you got the sleezy feeling that the filmmakers actually wanted Camille Keaton raped, and that the film was sort of catering to that kind of crowd. The remake made it more of a tragedy and because of the excellent performances and the fact that the film spent some time to develop characters and relationships, there was a lot more emotional release with her revenge. Of all the horror remakes out there, I'd say it ranks right up there with the best in terms of improving on the framework of the original. Interested to see the third, but only if it's made with the caliber of the remake and not its sequel. Life's too precious to waste it watching a hateful movie.
