Anolis, the people who gave some of us Blutige Seide, are planning to release this Freda/Bava classic very soon (March 2nd 2009).
Perhaps not of interest to many because of the region/PAL thing and the fact that there are no English subs available for the It. audio..(there's an English track though).

To me it's interesting,I adore this little gem,so here's the scoop:

I don't know where the original info comes from though.

By the way I have the Dutch DVD.Which, apparently,is the best out there image wise.
    It's not English friendly.

Here's a very nice comparison between different versions:

I have had this film on R1 DVD for literally 4 or 5 years, I think and I've never even thought of watching it yet. Probably should get around to that...

    More specs:

    • 2 DVDs
    • 3 different cuts of the film (a slightly shorter German cut,Italian cut and the English cut, with extra scenes (?))
    • Anamorphic
    • Limited to only 2000 pcs.
    And yes,here's the source:

Only thing I still haven't found out:WHERE CAN I ORDER THIS?

Interesting, the Image DVD seemed overly bright with a really bad moire effect on my TV. This film could use a better transfer.

Another interesting thing. The German trailer apparently has the lost "guillotine footage".I can't remember seeing any trailers for I Vampiri..

This is what I mentioned in my Bizarre Sinema review a few years back:

I checked my Blutige Seide DVD and lo and behold, the German trailer of I Vampiri was on it :D
It looks like it's the complete guillotine scene.I can't do DVD rips so I made an animated gif to let you at least see this scene. It's a large file,so if anyone has problems with it loading please let me know:

This scene will not be included in the new DVD.

The DFW release is indeed a good one.I'll stick to it for the time being.
I don't think the movie is boring. It's oozing with atmosphere. Also it's part of Italian Horror history in general.I like it (obviously ;)).

i wish somebody like blue underground would release this. I'm sure they could get Tim Lucas to contribute some more to it. i think its the only bava film thats had a R1 release that i don't have. its just too expensive right now (OOP isn't it?)

It's not OOP, but it is kinda expensive. Though the movie is worth it IMO.

Since it's an Image release, I doubt BU could get their hands on the rights. All other (Bava) Image releases were rereleased by AB/Starz, so my guess is they will get, or already have, the rights for this one? (only speculation though)
I liked what AB did with the Bava films.

So did I, but i was under the impression that they weren't interested in releasing as much older genre fare, and were concentrating on more mainstream releases and their own productions. if they DID get the rights to it, I'd be ecstatic, no question. I'm just hoping somebody creates a new R1 release of it.

Although technicaly it isn't a Bava movie, it would be great if they included it in part 3 of the Bava boxes. If there ever will be one ofcourse.

Agreed. Include it with Blood and Black Lace (Desperately needs a better release!), Hatchet for the Honeymoon, and The Whip and the Body.

That was the one I meant. It's cheaper if you live in Germany. They won't ship outside Germany.

I compared the screenshots from the earlier link (http://dvdfreak.bloudil.cz/freak.php?p=vampiri&dz=0) and the new review (http://www.dvd-forum.at/28770/screenshots.htm) and actually think that the DFW version is still the best :eek1:
I'm no expert but when I compare the two, I think the DFW has more detail and is easier on the eyes. It also is wider, the Anolis misses some info on both sides:

    DFW version:

    The new ANOLIS version:

With that price and this difference, I'll stick to my DFW version for sure.
