https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/in-search-of-darkness#/ The main campaign has already been funded, but is "Indiegogo Indemand" now for extra backers. There is also an "Elvira" website exclusive edition with extra swag items (see below). Also available during October only as an "Elvira" exclusive release: https://80shorrordoc.com/pages/elvira
So is this actually a different version to the In Search of Darkness documentary that was funded a while ago? I contributed to main campaign but would hate to miss out on exclusive Elvira material (love her!) But if it's just the cover art and poster/pin that are exclusive I can probably pass. Would they really produce a different edit with the Elvira segments?
Has anyone who ordered the Elvira edition received it yet? I got the "regular" version this past Friday.
No, not yet... but they sent an email link about a month ago to watch the "digital version" of the doc and stated "Your new expected delivery window is: 13th of January - 28th of January" for the physical version (manufacturing schedule delay) to ship.
I was disappointed the way they shipped my package. I got one of the tiers with posters and a t-shirt and they crammed everything in a thin, too small bubble mailer. The posters were wrinkled and crushed and tore when I opened the envelope - the edges got stuck to the adhesive on the mailer when they sealed it. I emailed them about getting replacements but never got a response. For the price they really should have sent the posters rolled or at the very least folded between something firm to prevent damage.
Damn that really freaking sucks!! I sincerely feel really bad for you. Hopefully they respond keep us updated!
Yes I did the Freddy Krueger level of the original Kickstarter campaign. Came with a t-shirt, soundtrack CD and the two poster prints, one signed by the artist in addition to the bluray of the documentary and the downloads. I’m not even a huge poster guy but I really liked the artwork by Graham Humphreys and would liked to have framed the print. Still no response from the campaign but I might try again after the holidays. That level was over £100, whatever that translates to in dollars, so I really hate feeling ripped off.
Lots of people on social media, other forums, and the documentary's indiegogo campaign complaining about destroyed posters as well as the movie being on BD-Rs with the labels peeling off. All in all a cheap way to repay fans who helped get your doc off the ground in the first place. Will wait for the inevitable premiere on Shudder and if that doesn't happen, I can just read Horror Films of the 1980s by John Kenneth Muir again.
Thanks for the update. I will email again and hope I can get replacements. I saw the soundtrack CD was a burned disc but didn’t check the Blu-ray. Can’t believe they’d send a BDR. What a disappointment. I can’t imagine they’ll get the artist to sign a new batch of posters. It’s too bad they ruined them all by shipping that way because the poster was on good quality stock and would have looked beautiful.
This is why I don't back these projects anymore. Something always goes wrong. Either items are damaged, never show up, or are not of the quality that was promised.
I don't want to generalize but a lot of these Kickstarter type projects all seem to be geared to getting the money and then you are lucky if you get the items intact. Some you are lucky to get the item at all. I've stopped Kickstarters as well. I just consider myself lucky in that I knew who I was backing. And the few times I've had a problem or delay, the people were genuine, communicated, and didn't run off with the money. I did recently receive a Kickstarter project. That will go in my October 2020 Horror Items post. Some here might like it.
