It's going to snow tonight in Phoenix. I finally received my Sinbad replacement disc today! Took 46 days to arrive from the Czech Republic or at least that was how long ago I got an email that the replacement was on the way.

Caps-a-holic posted comparisons for Wolf (disappointing, visually, compared to the US Sony release), Jason and the Argonauts (identical to the US Sony release), and Mysterious Island (an improvement over the Twilight Time releases).

...and First Men in the Moon (marginal improvement over the Twilight Time release).

The Wolf image comparisons looks almost identical to me. What am I missing?

The Indicator release is softer. It like it's either been filtered or DNR'ed.

I do see it now. It does look like it's missing detail slightly. That's disappointing. I wonder if they'll review it and do a replacement disc?

Wolf is the exact same transfer as the Sony release, it just happens to have been zoomed in slightly (which may have been an error on whomever authored it for the Indicator release) which is why it looks to be a bit softer.

I think they look almost identical to me too. If anything the the Sony has a tiny bit more artifacts. maybe the Indicator looks better in motion. It has a higher bit rate overall than the Sony.

I'd better cancel my order now before I forget. Come to think of it I will cancel Eyes of Laura Mars as well and just wait for reviews. It'll save me the trouble of replacement programs.

I don't doubt it's sourced from the same HD master, but I'm not sure the reductions in texture and detail can be attributed solely to an almost insignificant amount of zooming.

    Capture 2: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x=255&y=131&d1=11081&d2=11082&s1=108652&s2=108664&l=1&i=1&go=1
    Capture 9: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x=448&y=411&d1=11081&d2=11082&s1=108658&s2=108671&l=1&i=8&go=1
    Capture 10: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x=294&y=427&d1=11081&d2=11082&s1=108659&s2=108672&l=1&i=9&go=1

To my eyes, while the captures on the first two scenes do seem to be slightly offset/zoomed, the rest of those shots don't seem to be zoomed at all. The letterboxing bars are slightly thicker on the Indicator release, reducing some of the picture at the top and the bottom, but the framing seems to be identical.

I'm certainly not trying to raise any pitchforks in demand for a replacement program, and these discrepancies might be almost indetectable in motion. I was just hoping that the Indicator release with it's plethora of extras, would equal or surpass all facets of the Sony release, and it looks like that may not be the case.

If you go in the corner of capture 2 where there's an armchair you can see the detail in the little pins is lost on the Indicator release. It's definitely more than a zoom problem for sure.
