Playback Trading (previously known as Laser Exchange) is having a Japanese LD Clearance Sale.

Most are $25.00 each, but some of the box sets are more expensive.

There's some I'd like to get, particuarly ones that weren't ever released on domestic laserdisc. A few examples: Sixth Sense, Vampires, Apt Pupil, Lake Placid, 8 Millimeter. I'd love to order some of those TV sets (Mission Impossible), but they're still too expensive.

It's depressing too, because as of this Fall Pioneer Japan is going to destroy anything they have left.

I may order 1 or 2, but $25 is still a lot when there are better DVDs out there (minus the sound, which is debateable). I'm going to wait and see if CD Japan offers any of them for sale - they're cheaper than Playback.

Take a look at the list, everyone. I'm submitting price requests to CD Japan, and I'm 99% certain their prices will be significantly cheaper than Playback's.

If you see something you want, let me know and I'll do a price request from CD Japan. Right now I've request prices on these:

PILF-2507 -- / LOST HIGHWAY LD 1
PILF-2784 -- / 8 MILLIMETER ('99E/Cinemascope) LD 1
PILF-2803 -- / APT PUPIL ('97E/Cinemascope) LD 1
PILF-2844 -- / SCREAM 3 ('00E/Cinemascope/DD) LD 1
PILF-2847 -- / LAKE PLACID ('99E/Cinemascope/DD) LD 1
PILF-7397 -- / JOHN CARPENTER'S VAMPIRES LD 1
PILF-7405 -- / SIXTH SENSE, THE ('99E/Vista/DD) LD 1
PILF-2187 -- / TERMINATER 2 THE JUDGEMENT DAY (SUBTITLED/SQUEEZE) LD 1
PILF-2311 -- / MISSION IMPOSSIBLE -TV SERIESE /YEAR 1 (Bilingual) LD 1
PILF-2312 -- / MISSION IMPOSSIBLE -YEAR ONE VOL.2 (US.TV) LD 1

SQUEEZE LDs are 16x9, BTW. I think everyone should own at least one!

The only one I saw on there that interested me was U-571. Well, there was some Anime on there too, but that's probably only in Japanese

I have U-571 LD. I watched some of it (my first time seeing it), but I fell asleep (no fault of the movie, it was past midnight). I was a bit concerned with the fact that there were no English subtitles during the many German dialogue scenes. Instead there were just Japanese subtitles in the black bars. Supposedly this LD does have an incredible soundtrack, though.

Yes, the Lost Highway is widescreen. It also comes with a few trailers. They have that particular disc in stock (they're always trying to sell it on ebay for $27 or so). I may buy that one too (don't worry, they have a few dozen copies).

Also, just an FYI, CD Japan can get the titles as a special request order, but their prices are the same. In that case I just assume give Playback the business.

Hmm...I still want to get that U-571 LD to check out the sound sometime. 25 Bucks is more than a little high though

How depressing. Many of these are selling for $500+. Small pressings and people aren't giving them up. We should have loaded up, Paff.
