Jeff Lieberman's SQUIRM (1976) from Shout Factory October 2014 From Scream Factory's FB page: ***SURPRISE TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT*** The worms crawl in and out this October when we release the 1976 nature-gone-berserk classic SQUIRM to Blu-ray for the first time in U.S. and Canada! No details on extras yet but this will be in our “Collector’s Edition” series and new artwork will be revealed soon. Expect exact street date and pre-order links to go up sometime next month.
They already mentioned on Facebook that this would be the artwork they use on the reverse. https://www.facebook.com/ScreamFact...y_comment_id=455000361303647&total_comments=2
For once, I'm not even interested. I already have the Arrow Blu-ray/DVD Combo, which is great...and I can't see Shout topping it, or probably even matching it. The Arrow will probably still have a superior encode anyway.
The only reason why I'm not more excited is that I already own the Arrow release, which is superb. However, I am a perfectionist, so should Scream top the Arrow release, I'd probably upgrade. I love this movie.
Love watching this and "Slithis" as a double feature. I'm forever grossed out from even wanting an egg cream.
I could be wrong but I don't think Arrow shares extras with other labels. It's not likely Shout will top Arrow in the extras department but if there's no overlap then Shout's edition should complement Arrow's release. It's how I see it, anyway. Good news about the artwork. Arrow sort of ruined it by adding logos and other junk over it so it'll be great to have a clean version of it.
I think the only time I've fully sat through this was as an MST3K episode. But I have a feeling I'll pick this up. I'm sure that if I really give it a chance, I'll see the quality.
Didn't know then, still don't know, and don't really want to know what an egg cream is. Some things sound nasty enough that my guess is that adding a worm only improves it.
A cult classic for sure. I really appreciate much of Lieberman's work, however, upon first viewing I was not very taken with Squirm. So much to buy before the end of 2014, I'll probably pass. I'm trying to curb my spending habits too.
Grabbed the Arrow blu-ray during their last sale. It's loaded with features and has a pretty hefty booklet. I'm good for this one. ~Matt
Same here. I can't imagine that this would be worth a separate purchase. But it's good news for those who aren't region free, I guess.
Wow, I totally forgot there was a MST3k episode of this flick. Not sure I've even seen it. If I have it's once, while on the air. Would love to have this and The Incredible Melting Man episodes in a MST3k boxset down the road. Incredibly, Melting Man hasn't made it onto a boxset yet. Maybe they're waiting for sales of the stand alone version to fall off first? If so, perhaps the recent price reduction on their site could indicate that. Enjoy your Collector's Editions though boys.
Tell that to Phantom of the Paradise and Motel Hell, at least as far as extras are concerned. I'm willing to bet they will look identical.
I hope the Shout release doesn't look like the Arrow release of Phantom of the Paradise. The colors aren't that great on it. My French Blu-ray looks better IMO. Motel Hell might be sourced from the same transfer, but I'll bet anything the Arrow will have a superior encode. Shout often has some serious compression issues with the authoring house they use.
Man...I just broke down and got the Arrow release. Which is great btw. Hope the extras are similar. Also got arrow'sMotel Hell. Oh well. Blast it SF.
Funny, I have kept my steelbook blu-ray of Phantom sealed thus far as I also have the French Blu. The steelbook looks beautiful so I will keep it sealed and just watch my French copy. So thanks for the heads up.
