that's a good price for that blu ray 13 euros and minus the vat at 11 euros is only like $12 dollars or something I think. I will definitely order from amazon Spain next month I think. I am actually a fan of the 2000's Franco output. He was always entertaining even with a very low budget, even though his films were like very experimental in the 2000's, he was like just filming some dancing girl and bathing it in filters a lot of times, but hey I'm easy to please with a movie, I rarely see a movie I don't like, usually it's some horrible crap from Hollywood like The Hours, that movie is still what I consider the worst movie I ever saw, others will disagree I'm sure, but I've seen some really low budget horror and stuff, but The Hourse just was the worst, most depressing film I ever saw, why do I want to watch a movie that wins award and crap, but makes me want to slit my wrists. Yeah great accomplishment your movie made 5,000 people go out and commit suicide, well not really, but you get my point. I don't like films that are no fun at all, a movie has to have an element of some fun to it for me, and all horror films I like have some element of fun, that's why I can't stand torture porn genre or horror,, now don't get me wrong I like a good gross out horror film lwith good special effects, but it's got to have some fun to it also, I don't a downbeat no fun film. And all Jess Franco films had that fun element to them, Even his worst film I've seen had some enjoyable elements to it, I mean Oasis of the Zombies often considered a terrible film is a fun film to me, maybe others hate it, but I watch it every 6 months or so and I always like watching it.

In a bit of impulsiveness I ordered every available Jess Blu that I didn't have and an all region Blu Ray player. Time to get lost in Franco-land. I've seen about half of them (and am partial to the Soledad Miranda ones, as well as the early 70s titles). I've not seen that many of the Dietrich ones, but will soon.
I have all but one of the available Franco's on Blu, now. I'm starting a spread sheet (because I'm super OCD) of what all is available of Franco's on Blu and DVD. What all info should I include? Pal/NTSC, Region Code, Languages, Subtitles? It is amazing no one has picked up The Obscene Mirror (and it's Clothed version) for Blu since a restoration of it was done in the last few years...
I just watched Rossa Venezia which while not directed by Franco did have a few short scenes with him and Lina Romay.

yeah I agree with you Angelman I can't understand why no one will release The Obscene Mirror on blu ray, it's one of Franco's best films I think, and I only saw it in French with no subtitles, but I would love to see it subtitled, I would definitely buy it on blu ray. Companies say it cost to much to release or something, but if a company in France can release it, then it can be released in the United States. There are so many films of Jess Franco's that are being ignored for release, they should try to release all of his films to blu ray. I wish they would release his 80's films more to blu ray. That era of his career has been almost totally ignored for some reason.
Agree. It is avail for Blu licensing. Some one needs to jump on this, throw some subtitles on it and get it out with BOTH versions: Tim Lucas on the Obscene Mirror restoration I remember seeing this on trailers of some PAL DVD releases of Italian films about 10 years ago and remember thinking that I liked the idea of it, but the video-porn cheapness of it made me never motivated to investigate. I watched Awful Dr. Orloff last night on Blu. It's really well-done and more engaging than many other Gothic horrors. Do wish Redemption did restorations. This film could look a lot better. Thankful to have it on Blu though, I guess. Would love Arrow to drop some Franco titles on us.
oh yes if Arrow were to get into doing some Franco restorations it would be great, look at what they've done with the Bava restorations. They are loaded with extras. Kino/Redemption are kind of lackluster, but at least they are on blu ray and in HD, that's something at least. There are so many films of Jess Franco's that I'll probably get to never see because no companies want to release them, it annoys me. The films are there to be released, I don't understand why a big movie studio like Warner Brothers won't release many of Franco's films, I mean many of his films are suitable to mainstream release and are not out on blu ray yet like Faceless, that would be a big seller for a big studio release like MGM or some other company, why do we have to rely on some small company to release such a film? Some small company that may never even release it to blu ray.
As a self-proclaimed Jess Franco-phile (he's my favourite filmmaker and I even have a tattoo of Jess Franco on my body) his work is all over the place - not just via genre - but different films and even different versions are owned by all different folks all over the world and I can't think of any of his titles that would even be in the hands of the bigger distributors currently. There are lots of factors in getting a film released, and especially with Franco's work - the paperwork on some of these unreleased titles is messy or sources non-existent - so it's going to be the little guys - and not the bigger studios - that will take the risk of putting out these Jess Franco titles. And even if somehow in a fantasy world Faceless was an MGM title, they'd never release it wide and it would be a piss-poor seller because it is such a niche title. Yes, it's name is familiar in the underground horror circles, but in no way is Faceless a mainstream horror title.
All true. The license holders are pretty clear for a lot of Franco - the Dietrich ones (which are mostly out on Blu) The Towers ones (which Blue Underground had a lot of, but may not have all of), etc. The later ones, the 80s and so on are more scattered, I imagine. I see that many have appeared on DVD in Spain, if not here - the ones we've all seen. I work in the "movie biz" but wish I had time to learn about the boutique blu business. It's not really my "area" but love the restoration side of things...
Tim Lucas should do every commentary ever. His commentary on Awful Dr. Orlof is amazing. No real dead space, lots of context and history on actors/locations, lots of film study/comparisons (but thoughtful ones, like Welles' influence on Franco) and anecdotes. I stopped listening to commentaries because they end up being VERY boring, Tim's are always winners.
